Be it known that I, CHARLES LAWRENCE WILKINs, of Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curb-Cocks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i'

My invention relates to an improved curbcock, the object of the invention being to provide an improved oook in which it is impossible to jam the plug by pressure applied on the T-head or cap, and, further, to provide an improved construction of T-head and cap made integral with integral stop-lugs, so that the head cannot be bent or twisted bylturning the key the wrong way or continuing to turn the same after the stop and lug have become engaged, and, further, to provide improvements of this character which will exclude all dirt from the cock.

With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts,

1 represents the casing or shell of my improved curb-cock, having a conical turningplug 2, made with a threaded lug 3 on its lower end passed through a washer 4, and has a nut 5 screwed thereon to secure the plug in proper position. The ends of the casing or shell are made externally angular to receive a wrench and are internally circular and screwthreaded to receive threaded pipes screwed therein.

The upper end of the plug-valve ca'sing is made with a fiat circular enlargement 6 and has on its upperface an integral stop 7, and the plug 2 has an angular extension 8 projecting above the casing and notched in two of its angular edges, as shown at 9, for a purpose which will hereinafter appear.

In the cap portion of casting 10 at opposite sides integral lugs 13 are provided which rest on enlargements 6, serve as stops in both directions by engaging stop 7, and sustain all strain on the T-head and valve, and as these lugs are located opposite each other the T-head cannot be wrongly placed.

The usual means employed for opening and closing curb-cocks is a long detachable T-handle socket-wrench, which is pushed down into the street-box. With my improvements the strain is entirely on the casting 10 comprising the T-head and cap, as the stop-lugs 13 are integral therewith and the stop 7 is on the casing 1, relieving the valve of all strain. Also in trying to locate the T- head of the cock the wrench will exert considerable pressure thereon, which in other forms of valve will jam the valve and interfere with the perfect operation of the valve, while with my improvements such pressure is not felt by the plug-valve 2 at all, but is sustained entirely by the casting 10 with its lugs 13 on the enlargement 6 of casing or shell 1.

Slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
