NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE D. SCI-IRUM, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM SOHRUM, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
BELT-HOLDER.
SEEGIFIOATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 712,098, dated October 28, 1902.
Application filed December 9, 1901. Serial No. 85,231. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. SOHBUM, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt-Holders, of which the following is a specification,
reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
IO My invention relates to an improved beltholder; and its object is to provide a cheap and durable loop for holding an ordinary belt from moving up and down relative to the garment beneath and which may be readily attached to or detached from the garment and belt, and to this end a double loop is formed from a strip of sheet metal, one loop to engage the waistband of the trousers and the other to engage the belt, the top of the belt-loop being bent to snap over the top of the waistband-loop to hold the belt-loop closed, and spurs are struck up from the side of the beltloop, which spurs are adapted to project through openings in the sides of the waist- 2 5 band-loop and through the fabric to prevent the device from becoming detached therefrom; and a further object is to provide the device with certain other details of construction, all of which are hereinfter more fully.
0 described, and particularly pointed out inthe claims, reference being had to the accompa nying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention, showing the beltloop open. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3, a longitudinal section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, showing belt-loop closed; and Fig. 4 is a view showing the device in use.
The holder is formed of a long strip of sheet metal bent to form the loops A and B, the loop A having an open end to receive the waistband of the trousers. or portion 6 of the loop B is bent inward to meet the side of the loop A to close the up- 5 per end of said lo'op B,said end being formed with a curved portion forming a hook c, which is adapted to spring into engagement with the upper rounded end a" of the loop A and form a snap to hold the loop 13 closed. From the portion 1) are struck the spurs d, which The upper end,
project at right angles thereto, and when the hook c is engaged with the end 0, these spurs extend through openings 6 in the side of the loop A and across the loop into the openings 7" in the opposite side thereof.
The holders may be first secured to the trousers by slipping the loop A over the waistband and then forcing the spurs through the fabric until the hook c snaps over the end Ct and the belt then run endwise through the loop B, or the belt may be inserted sidewise into the top of the loop B by springing the upper end of said loop outward to disengage the spurs from the openings eand the holder then secured to the trousers as before.
Any desired number of these holders may be used to support the belt and being of metal they will not wear out or break nor will they become accidentally detached or tear the fabric, as the spurs extend com pletely through the waistband and are supported at their inner ends or points in the openingsf. I thus securea light, cheap, and durable loop which is easily attached to the trousers or removed therefrom and into which the belt may be inserted in the ordinaryway or edgewise.
' I may in order to prevent the spurs d coming in contact with the body of the wearer dispense with the openings f, although I find So that by supporting the inner ends of said spurs in the openings there is less danger of their becoming bent.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. A belt-holder formed of a single piece of material and comprising oppositely-disposed loops, the upper end portion of one of which is bent inward to meet the side of the other loop to close its upper end and formed with a curved portion constituting a hook 9o constructed to spring into engagement with the upper rounded end of the other loop, substantially as shown and described.
2. A belt-holder formed of a single piece of material and comprising oppositely-dis- 5 posed loops, the upper end portion of which I is bent inward to meet the side of the other loop to close its upper end and formed with a curved portion constituting a hook constructed to spring into engagement with the mo upper rounded end of the other loop, said inward-bent portion being formed wit-h spurs to extend across the other loop.
3. As an improved article of manufacture, a belt-holder comprising in a single element two oppositely-disposed loops, one of which has an open end, the other loop having an inward bend at right angles to the length of therloop and a portion extending from said bend parallel with the portion between the two loops with spurs adjacent to said bend and beyond said spurs witha portion curved to engage the rounded end of the upper loop and to snap thereover, the outer Wall of the upper loop and the intermediate portion being 15 In testimony whereof I affix my signature 20 in presence of two witnesses.
