Be it known that I, CHARLES B. LANG, of Chicopee, in the county of Hampden, and State of-Massachu setts, havemadeand invented a new and useful Tassel-Fastening, or device for attaching tassels to cords; and I do hereb'yideclure that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference bein'g had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the core-block and cam. My invention relates to a tassehfastening, particularly for such tassels as are formed on wooden core-blocks for curtains and the like, and is designed to facilitate thc attachment and detachment of such tassels to and from the cords whereon they are to be suspended. v

My device consists of a peculiarly-constructed cam or fastening, so arranged, in connection with the core-block of the tassel, that, when the cord and tassel are once thereby properly connected, the greater thc strain or. tension,vtending'toscver or sepiara-te,'thcA cord and tassel, the more firmlyfcnd securely they arc locked together.

In carrying out my invention, I construct a wooden coreblcck,.e, which I cover in any desirable form with the ordinary materials. Through such core-block I make a hole, z, for the insertion of the cord'b; and on the side of block e, and near the upper end thereof, I make an opening or mortise, g, communicating with the longitudinal opening L. I' then construct, of iron or other suitable material, ,what I term thencam or fastening a, which cam I secure in the mortise g` by means of an ordinary iro'n pin, p,'in such a manner that the lower end of the cam a is allowed to swing inward till it comes in contact with the interior of the oppositewall of block e. The exterior of the cam a, I make convex in one direction, with a slight projection at the upper end to facilitate opening and shutting the same. The interior ofthe cam, I make concave in one direction, as seen in igsf2 and 4, to correspond with the holeih.` The lowerend of the cam, I make circular, as Seen in iig. 3, also to correspond with the hole h, against the wall of which it presses when in use. .The length of the cum a is such that, in swinging inward, it strikes the pppositc wall of the core-block enfter performing a little less than one-fourth of a revolution, thus insuring a rm grip of the cord b when in use, and, at the Sametime, swinging in so far as toprecludc alldanger of its dropping back and unfastening of itself.

To hang tasscls constructed as above described, it is only necessary 'to insert the end of the cord b in the hole h till it is well below the morti'se g. Turn the cam a inward till it comes in contact with ,the cord, then draw smartly on the cord, as 4if to remove it'from the block, and it will be found securely fastened. t' To detach the tassel, turn the cam back Ato the position seen in iig.

The cam a may be arranged at the upper or lower end or middle of the block e, to suit convenience or taste. Having thus described the construction and operation of'my invention, what I claim as new, and for which I desire to secure Letters Patent,^is

1. The cam-fastening a, when constructed as described and for the purpose specified.

2. I claim the cam a, in combination with the core-block e and cord b, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
