UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JOHN ORRILLE NOBLE, OF TRENTON, NEIV JERSEY.
BASlN-CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming partrof Letters lPatent No. 709,170, dated. September 16, 1902. Application filed March3,1902. senile. 96,451. (Nomodeland exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to basin-clamps.
The object of the invention is to provide a clamp of this character which shall be simple of construction, durabl'e in use, comparatively inexpensive of production, and by means of which the bowl may be easily and quickly attached to the slab or shelf.
With this and other objects in View the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an enlarged section of a portion of the slab and bowl of a stationary wash-basin, illustrating the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the clamp removed, and Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the clamping-jaw.
Referring to the drawings, ldenotes the slab or shelf of the basin, and 2 the bowl. The clamp for connecting the bowl to the slab or shelf comprises a post 3, the upper end of which is provided with a head 4, which is calked with lead or other suitable material into a recess or seat 5, formed in the lower surface of the slab or shelf. This post is provided with a longitudinal slot 6, in which'is pivoted a cam-shaped lever '7.
8 denotes the clamping-jaw, which is provided with an aperture 9, whereby said jaw is engaged with the post, and'is preferably offset, as shown at 10, to engage under the marginal flange 11 of the basin-bowl. The lower side of the jaw at points diametrically opposite the aperture therein is formed with grooves 12, which are adapted to receive the edge of the cam-lever, and thus prevent the jaw turning axially about the post.
In use after the post has been secured to the slab in any suitable manner and the bowl of the basin adjusted to the under side of the slab the jawis moved upwardly into engagement with the flange of the bowl and the outer end of the cam-leveris then swung upwardly into the slot of the post and into engagement with the grooves of the jaw, thus locking said jaw to said basin and at the same time pre- .venting the twisting or turning movement of said jaw on the post. If desired, a collar 13 may be formed upon the post to limit the movement of the clamping-jaw, or, in other words, to act as a stop between which and the edge of the cam-lever the jaw is clamped.
From the foregoing descriptiomtaken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, mode of operation, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood without requiring an extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and details of construction maybe made Within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure "by Letters Patent, is
A basin-clamp comprising a slotted post adapted to be secured to the slab or shelf of a basin, a cam-lever pivoted in the lower end of the post and adapted to swing into said slot, and a clamping-jaw having an aperture through which the post projects and a groove formed in its lower side contiguous to said aperture to receive the edge of the cam-lever and lock the clamping-jaw against rotation upon the post, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN ORRILLE NOBLE.
