VILLIAM G. ESCH, OF MANITOlVOC, VISCONSIN.
NOZZLE-GRIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 708,538, dated September 9, 1902.
Application filed April 17, 1902.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM G. ESOH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manitowoc, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nozzle-Grips; and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a nozzle-grip, `and is a companion case to that filed of even date by me and illustrates another form of my invention.
The object of the invention is to provide a nozzle-grip which shall be simple of construc-` and my improved grip or handle, the parts` being shown in operative position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view, of the parts separated and arranged in their order of connection.
Referring to the drawings, l denotes the end of the hose, 2 the nozzle, and 3 the nozzlenipple, secured to the end of the hose in any suitable manner-as, for instance, by the wires 4. The annular shoulder 5 of the nipple 3 abuts against the outer end of the hose, and the eXternally-screw-threaded portion 6 receives the nozzle.
7 denotes the grip or handle, which consists of a sleeve provided with a cover of non-conducting material, which covering will prevent the hands being chilled when the hose is in use. This covering is made of hard rubber and is slipped upon the sleeve and the ends To prevent the cover slipping longitudinally of the sleeve, one end of the sleeve is provided with an annular stop-shoulder 10 and the other end with an annular stopshoulder l1.
The stop- Serial No. 103,428. (No model.)
shoulder ll terminates in an annular inwardly-projecting iiange 12, which when the sleeve is slipped over the end of the hose is adapted to abut against the outer face of the annular' collar 5 ot' the nipple.
13 denotes a washer which is placed on the outer end of the nipple and is confined between the shoulder 14 of the nozzle and the annular flange 12 when the nozzle is screwed in place.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, Inode of operation, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood without requiring an extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and details of construction may be made within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination with a hose, its nipple provided with an annular shoulder., and a hose-nozzle, of a grip or handle located upon the end of the hose and having a portion clamped between the shoulder of the nipple and the inner end of the nozzle, substantially -as set forth. l
2. The combination with a hose, its nipple having an annular shoulder, and its nozzle having an annular shoulder, of a grip or handle located upon the outer end of said hose and provided at each end with stop-shoulders, and a non-conducting covering which is confined between said shoulders, the outermost stop-shoulder being formed with an annular inwardly-projecting flange which is clamped between the annular collar of thenipple and the annular collarof the nozzle, substantially as set forth.
' In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses. f
