PATENT OEEICE.

`Fonol-DRAl-'T ATTACHM ENT YFOR sTovEs'f.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 707,188,dated August 19, 1902.
Appnotiim'ied April' 251 19o2.
T0 all whom t may cor/toorn:
Be it known that`1, SAMUEL J WALKER, a`` citizen of the United States, residing atfLeesvi11e,in the parish of Vernon and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Force-Draft Attachment for Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stoves and furnaces, more particularly to cook-stoves; and 1o artificial air-currents are adapted to be projected into the draft-chamber to increase the draft, as hereinafter shown and described, and specifically pointed out in' the claims.
The device may be attached to any form of stove or furnace, but, as above stated, is more particularly applicable to cook-stoves, and for the purpose of illustration it is shown in the drawings applied tothe front of an ordinary cook-stove.
Figure l represents a front elevation of a portion of a stove-front with the'device at-" tached thereto. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section'of the same.
The device will generally be applied to the front of the stove 10, preferably in connection With the draft-slides l1, and consists in a cylinder or tube 12, attached,as bylugs 12, across the front of the stove and having small branch pipes 13 leading laterally therefrom and ending opposite the draft-apertures, as shown. Within the cylinder is movably disposed a piston 14, having a stem 15 leading outward through one end and provided with an operating-handle 16. By this simple arrangement it will be readily understood when the piston is moved back and forth in the cylinder the air will be alternately drawn into the cylinder throughthe branches 13 4o and projected forcibly therefrom intoqthe draft-chamber through the 'draft-apertures;
The device is verysimple and easily apit consists in an attachment whereby strong sentir.104,685.1(110 man.)
plied to any stove or furnace Without changing 'the' latter yor'alterirgany of itsparts'and will be found very convenient Where forced` or induced currents are required.
The cylinder 12 may be of any desired size, and any desired number of the branch pipes 13 maybe employed, but generally they will correspond to the number of the draft-apertures, as shown.
What I claim is- 1. An attachment to a stove comprising a cylinder having one or more'outlets in alinement with the draft-apertures, a piston movably disposed within said cylinder,and means 'whereby air is admitted to the cylinder during the movement of the piston in one direction and discharged from said outlets when said piston is moved in the opposite direction, substantially as described.
. 2:An attachment; tolastovencomprising a cylinder-,having one or more outlets communicatingwith the" draftchamber, a piston movably disposed Within said cylinder, and L1neanslvvherebyair is admitted to the cylinder during the movement of the piston in one direction and discharged from said outlets when said piston is moved in the opposite direction, substantially as described.l
3. The combination With a lstove having draft-apertures, of a cylinder with lateral outlets in alinement with said apertures, va piston movably disposed Within said cylinder, and means for operating said piston, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses. A
SAMUEL J. WALKER'.
