SUSPENDING DEVICE FOR CATAMENIAL BANDAGES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 706,457; dated August 5, 1902. Application filed January 20, 1902. Serial Ilo.'90,394. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDNAL. SCOTT, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Portland, Cumberland county, State of Main e, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspend-ing Devices for Catamenial Bandages, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a suspending device for securing the ends of catamenial bandages to take the place of the safety-pins and buckles which are now commonly used for that purpose. These bandages are commonly suspended from a waistband which buckles.
around the waist, and when buckles or safety pins are used to secure the bandage to the waistband they are apt to tear holes in the bandage, which is often made of fine linen material.
The object of my invention is to hold the end of the bandage firmly without the possibility of tearing and to provide for a certain amount of elasticity, so that the bandage will yield when a pull is exerted upon it. I accomplish this object by suspending from the waistband a 1oop,'preferably made of elastic cord, forming on the lower end a slip-noose, which is adapted to grip the end of the band age and hold it firmly.
I illustrate my invention by means of the accompanying drawing, which shows the device applied to a waistband with the bandage represented in dotted lines.
In the d-rawing,Arepresents the waistband, having the usual downward-projecting portion, to which the suspending device is secured. The bandage is suspended by the elastic cord e, having formed on its lower end a slip-noose by means of a loop h, a clip 9 being used to form the loop. On the upper end of the cord is .formed another similar loop by means'of a suitable clip f, and this upper loop passes through a metal clip 0, held on the loop I), the loop I) being secured to the face of the waistband by the tab d in the usual manner.
In using the device the napkin or bandage is pulled bodily through the noose formed in the cord 6, and the pull'of the bandage tightens the noose and holds the bandage without mutilating it in any manner. It will be seen that the elastic cord provides a yielding support, which makes the wearing of the bandage easy and agreeable.
It will be understood that one of these loops is used on the front and one on the back of the waistband. The eye formed in the lower end of the cord. being formed from the elastic cord itself hugs that portion of the cord passing through the eye closely, so that the loop will not slip open after it is set up, although it may be tightened or'loosened easily with the fingers.
I claim 1. The herein-described device for suspending catamenial bandages, consisting of a waistband having secured thereto an elastic cord having an eye formed of the same material in its lower end, the main cord passing through said eye to form a slip-noose, and the material in saideye adapted to be stretched or distended to create friction with the cord.
2. A suspending device for catamenial' bandages, comprising a waistband with. oppositely-arranged depending flaps, a loop carried by each flap, a clip suspended from said loop, an elastic cord connected to said clip and depending therefrom, and an eye carried by the free end of said cord adapted to have the body of the cord pass therethrough to form an elastic slip-noose, substantially as disclosed herein.

A device for suspending catamenial bandages,comprisingabelt having depending flaps at the front and rear, a flexible loop secured to each of said flaps, a reinforcing-strip secured transversely across the flap and over the secured ends of the loop, and an elastic cord secured swingingly to said loop having an eye upon its lower end through which the body of the cord passes to form a slip-noose.
4'.- A device for suspending catamenial bandages, comprising a belt having two oppositely-arranged depending flaps, a flexible loop, a depending clip carried by said metal loop, and an elastic cord having a wide eye formed in its upper end to be engaged by said clip, and a long eye formed in its lower end; whereby said cord is adapted to pass through said long eye to form a noose to engage the bandage.
