Description

N. c. BURNAP.
Milk Can. No. 70,516. Patented Nov. 5, 1867.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIoE.-
NELSON C. BURNA'P, OF ARGUSVILLE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF MILK-CANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 70 516, dated November 5, 1867.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELSON C. BURNAP, of Argusville, Schoharie county, New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Milk-Cans; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a central sectionalview of my improved milk-can. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new manner of constructing and protecting the bottoms of milk-cans, and is designed for an improvement on the milk-can for which Letters Patent No. 43,47 9 were granted to Hiram A. Grain on the 12th day of July, 1864.
The invention consists in rounding the bottom of the can, for the purpose of avoiding the creases which were formed where a flat bottom again.
A represents the milk-can, which is made of sheet metal or other suitable material, and in which the connection between the bottom and sides is rounded, as shown. B is the perforated protecting-bottom, which is also rounded, so as to befitted around the bottom of the can, as shown, said perforated plate B being provided with an annular flange, a, as shown. C is the ring, which is riveted to the flange a, and which connects the bottom B with the can A. The bottom B can be made of cast-iron or other suitable material.
It will be seen that by this arrangement the crease in the can is overcome, a nicely-rounded connection between the sides and bottom being effected, whereby the cleaning of the can will be greatly facilitated.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A milk-can when provided with a rounded connection between sides and bottom, and
when combined with a similarly-rounded pro-- tecting-bottom, B, having a flange, a, andwith a ring, 0, all made substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
- NELSON O. BURNAP.
