SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704,959, dated July 15, 1902.
Application filed February 2'7, 1901. Serial No. 49,073. (No specimens.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE W. DOORE, residing at Dover, in the county of Piscataquis, State of Maine, and ALLAN J. DOORE, residing at Greene, in the county of Butler, State of Iowa, citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paints; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to paints; and it has for its object to provide a paint compound which will act as a preservative when applied to wood, metals, and other materials, which will prevent rust, and will be proof against both fire and water.
In forming the present paint compound fifty-two gallons of coal-tar are thoroughly mixed with ten gallons of gasolene, and when the mixing operation is completed there are added ten pounds of cement, five pounds of powdered graphite, five pounds of sodium chlorid, and two and one-half pounds of sodium carbonate, the ingredients being added in the order named and each being thoroughly mixed into the solution before the addition of the next ingredient.
In the preparation of this paint it is necessary that the ingredients be mixed in the order and manner specified to secure the highest efficiency of the paint.

What is claimed is- 1. A paint compound having the ingredicuts and proportions substantially as follows, coal-tar fifty-two gallons, gasolene ten gallons,cementten pounds, graphite five pounds, sodium chlorid five pounds, and sodium carbonate, two and one-half pounds.
2. The method of forming a paint compound, which. consists in thoroughly mixing fifty-two gallons of coal-tar with ten gallons of gasolene, and then thoroughly mixing into the coal-tar and gasolene successively, ten pounds of cement, five pounds of graphite, five pounds of sodium chlorid and two and one-half pounds of sodium carbonate.
