J. H. ALDRICH, OF NASHUA, NEW 'HAMPSHIRE.
Letters Patent No. 70,384, dated November 5, 1867".
IMPROVED RAILROAD FREIGHT-CAB.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
I Be it known that I, J. H. ALDRICH, of Nashua, county of Hillsboro, in the State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Railroad Freight-Cars. The following is a correct description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and letters marked thereon, makinga part ofthis specification.
My invention consists in constructing the car with oblong apartments, of a given height, and a. chamber. or room in the top part, which is for the safety and economy of transporting live stock. I will describe it by referring to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side elevation.
Figure 2 is a sectional view.
Figure 3 a top view.
In fig. 1, letters A A are doors, with duplicates in the opposite side of the car. In fig. 2, letters B B are apartments, extending across the car from side to side. By this arrangement each creature is secured in its respective place without being tied, and in such a manner that a single one may be loaded or unloaded at either side of the carwithontinterfering with the others. Letters 0 C are chambers or rooms, in which food or subs istence for the stock may be carried when on transportation. In fig. 3, letters D D are doors, which open into said chambers C G, and form part of the top covering of the car. i e 7 As it is not safe to tie cattle by the neck when on transportation, in case of accident or sudden motion of the car, I therefore disclaim all such arrangements.
What I do. claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The cattle-ear, when substantially arranged as and for the purpose described.
, b Y J. H. ALDRICH.
i nesses:
WILLIAM BARRETT E. P. THAYER.
