To ALL WHOM IT MAY oononnn:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH ROESLER, of Warsaw, in the county of Hancock, and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Match-Safes and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and-exact description of the same. I
The nature of my invention consists in making a match-safe a little longer than twice the length of a common round match, with a partition, dividing'it in the middle, and narrower at the lower or bottom end, which is left open, and below which a rod and slide are attached, for the purpose of thrusting the matches from the safe through openings on the sides provided with sharp-toothed spring-plates, which scratch and ignite the match.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construe-- tion and operation, reference being had totthe annexed drawings, making a part of this specification. V
A is the match-safe. B is the partition which divides it into two equal parts, (see Figure I.) The safe A is made narrower at is lower'or bottom end, which is left open, the opening being about as wide as the full thickness of a common round match. To both-sides, atthe lower end, are strips C C fastened, having holes through them, which are provided with one or two sharp-toothcd spring-plates d d. A rod, E, surrounded by sliding tube F, is attached to strips 0 C, (or may otherwise be fastened to safe A,) below the holes and parallel with the lower or bottom end of safe A. Springs G G are fastened one on each side of safe A with one end, and with the other end to plate H, behind and extending a little above the safe, by means of which it may be: fastened to the wall or any other suitable place. The springs G G are attached for the purpose of giving the safe. a vibrating motion when ,operated, fwhieh tends to bring the matches regularly down to the slot; otherwise they would clog. From the. above description it will be seen that when matches are put in the safe A, and the slide F moved to one side, a match will fall down on rod E, ready to be pushed forward by slide F, through the opening between the toothed spring-plates d d, which scratch and i nite the match; at the same time another one will fall down on the other side ready for operation.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure Letters Patent, is- Rod E and sliding tube F, in combination with the double safe A, provided with springs GG, or their equivalents, the whole arranged and operating substantially as described ADOLPH ROESLER.
