UNITED STAT-ns` CHARLES F. LEMCKE, OF MILWAUKEE,
TO JOSEPH MILBAUER, OF
PATENT OFFICE.-
. FLOOR-RUBBER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 702,569, dated .T une 17, 19.02..
Application filed March 4, 1902 To all whom it'mcty concern,.-
Beit known Athat I, CHARLES F. LEMOKE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Floor-Rubbers; and I doherebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The improvements consist in what is hereinafter particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed, the object of the invention being to provide simple, economical, and 1abor-saving implements especially designed for oiling hard-wood iioors, but which may be utilized for other operations on oiled or waxed iioors.
Figure 1 offthe drawings is indicated by lines l 1 in the third igure of the series and represents a partly-sectional side elevation of an implement in accordance with my invention; Fig.'2,`a rear elevation of the implement, partly broken and in section, this View being indicated by line 2 2 in the third ligure; and Fig. 3, a plan view of a fragment of said implement, partly in horizontal section, thisview'being indicated byline 3 3 in the rst figure.
Referring byletter to the drawings, A indicates a iiat block of woodor other suitable material, that is preferably longer than wide and rounded kat the corners. This block is shown provided-with a longitudinal slot b, anda correspondingly-slotted pad B, of felt or other suitable material, is made fast to the under side of said block by any suitable means, the block and pad slots b c being in register:
A gutter C, of sheetmetal or other suitable material, is arranged in connection with block A to engage the slot of same and slot c of pad B, this gutter being provided with an upper rearwardly-inclined extension D, that constitutes a shield, for the purpose hereinafter specified. v
Back of shield D is a similarly-inclined so'cket'E, made fast to block A, and a handle F is stepped in the socket.
A series of independent spring-clips G, each Serial No. 96,688. (No model.)
fast at one end n the upper face of'block A, 5o I adjacenti tothe rounded corners of same, serve as,` means by' which to clutch and hold a pad-facing clothI-I, that'is drawn on said block over the upper edges of same, the pad-slot c being closed bythe cloth. Each 55 clip G is a single bent plate of spring metal,
v made fast at one end'on the top of block A,
the other or free bent end of the plate being pointed in opposition to the' block.
A pair of parallel standardsI, mounted on 6o the block, have their upper ends provided with open `curved slots d, engaged by trunnions J, that extend from heads ofa cylindrical reservoir K eccentric thereto, whereby preponderance of Weight of the reservoir is below itstrunnions, and an apertured closure L is provided for a normally upper iillingnozzle of said reservoir. In connection with a normally lower eye M, extending from the reservoir, is a cord-N,that extends partly 7o around said reservoir forward of same and is carried backv and made fast to an eye P, with which the handle F is provided, at a point within-convenient. reach of an operator ot the implement. By pulling on the cord the reservoir is turned to bring its outlet (the aperture in nozzle-closure L) over the gutter C, and oil or other fluid from said reservoir nds its way to cloth H to saturate the same.
On release of the cord the reservoir auto- 8o matically rights itself, and in either direction of movement on the part of said reservoir the shield D intercepts fluid that would otherwise fall onthe block A, this fluid being deiiected into the gutter C aforesaid. d T0 limit the 85 throw of the reservoir when cord N is pulled, a lug Q is arranged in connection with a head of said reservoir to come in contact with a rear edge of one of the standards l at the time the fluid-outlet is in register withthe 9o distributing-gutter.
The implement is pushed about over a door to rub oil therein, the oil being supplied to the spreading and rubbing cloth as often and n in such quantity as may be necessary or desirable. Whenever a cloth becomes unserviceable a new one is substituted, and while I have shown a reservoir that is rotary adjustable to feed oil therefrom to the cloth I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to this construction.
The implement may be utilized without oil to polish previously oiled or waxed hard-wood floors or for cleaning the same with spirits of turpentine or other Huid suitable for the purpose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A door-rubber comprising a block having a handle, a pad on the under side of the block, a pad-facing cloth drawn on the block over the upper edges of same, and cloth-holding spring-clips each consisting of a single bent plate of spring metal made fast at one end on the top of said block and having its other or free bent end pointed in opposition to the same.
2. Afloor-rubbercomprisingaslotted block having a handle, a slotted pad on the under side of the block, the pad and block slots being in register; a removable pad-facing cloth drawn on said block over the uppel1 edges of same, means by which the cloth is detachably held in place, a reservoirsuspended over the aforesaid block, and means for regulating feed of duid contents of the reservoir to said cloth through the block and pad slots.
3. Afloor-rubbercomprisingaslotted block having a handle, a slotted pad on the under side of the block, the pad and block slots being in register; a gutter engaging said slots and provided With a rear shield extension, standards on the block, a reservoir in trunnion connection with the standards and having preponderance of Weight below its trunnions, a pull-cord arranged in connection with the reservoir to turn the same toward the rear and bring a normally upper outlet thereof over the gutter, a pad-facing cloth, and means in connection with said block for holding the cloth in place.
4. A Hoor-rubber comprising a slotted block having a handle, a slotted pad on the under side of the block, the pad and block slots being in register; a gutter engaging the slots and provided with a rear shield extension, standards on the block, a reservoir in trunnion connection with the standards and hav ing preponderance of weight below its trunnions, a pull-cord in connection with the reservoir to turn the same toward the rear and bring a normally upper outlet thereof over the gutter, a standard opposing stop-lug ex-` tending,r from said reservoir to limit rotary adjustment of same by the cord, a pad-facing cloth, and means in connection with said block for holding the cloth in place.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Vscousin, in the presence of two witnesses.
