UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
THOMAS E. BOORD, OF CONNELLSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
PAPER-HANGERS TOOL.
SEEGIFIQATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 702,838, dated June 10, 1902.
Application filed November 12, 1901. Scrial'No. 82,001. (NoinodBL) H To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS E. B00111), a citizen of the United States, residing at and whose post-office address is Connellsville,(Box 422,) in the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Paper-Hangers Tools, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to paper-hangers tools; and the primary object is to provide in a single tool all of the implements necessary to apply the paper to the wall.
With this object in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed,and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with myinvention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the end of the handle, illustrating the brushsecuring means.
Referring now to the drawings by numerals of reference, 1 and 2 designate two handlesections telescopically secured one upon the other and adjustable at any predetermined point by means of a set-screw 3. On the end of the section 2 is arranged a fork-shaped projection 4, adapted to be seated in thimbles in the brush 5, secured thereon, said brush having a lateral groove 6, designed to be engaged by the curved spring 7 on the end of the rod or handle section 1, whereby the brush will be retained against becoming displaced. A further object of this spring is to permit the brush to be readily removed by the operator when it is desired to use the same as an ordinary hand-brush.
Slidably secured upon the rod or handle section 1 intermediate the ends thereofis a sleeve 8, carrying a laterally-arranged roller 9, which is designed for the purpose of moving out the wrinkles in the paper as it is applied to the wall. This sleeve may be held in any adjustment by means of a set-screw 10.
On the free end of the handle-section 2, which is in the form of a tube, is arranged a hand-roller 11, removably secured to the plug 12 in said tube, whereby said handle may be readily removed, if desired. This roller is for the purpose of smoothingdown the seams It will be noticed that the handle may be lengthened or shortened and that the ceilingpaper may be conveniently applied without the necessity of using a walking-plank or scaifold.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a handle having at one end a brush-securing device comprising a forked extension and a curved spring; of a socketed brush adapted to fit on the forked extension and provided with a lateral groove adapted to be engaged by said spring to normally hold the brush in engagement with the handle.
2.. In a device of the character described, the combination with a handle having at one end a brush-securing device comprising a forked extension and a curved spring; of a socketed brush adapted to fit on the forked extension and provided with a lateral groove adapted to be engaged by said spring to normally hold the brush in engagement with the handle, a sleeve on said handle and a laterally-arranged roller carried by said sleeve.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination with a telescopic handle having at one end a brush-securing device comprising a forked extension and a curved spring; of a socketed brush adapted to fit on the forked extension and provided with a lateral groove adapted to be engaged by said spring to normally hold the brush in engagement with the handle.
4. In a device of the characteridescribed, the combination with a handle having at one end a brush-securing device comprising a forked extension and a curved spring; of a socketed brush adapted to fit on the forked extension and provided with a lateral groove adapted to be engaged by said spring to normally hold the brush in engagement with the handle, a tubular extension on one end of said handle, a plug inserted therein, and aremovable hand-roller secured to said plug.
In testimony whereof I affix my'signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS E. BOORD.
Witnesses:
