(Application filed Mar. 29, 1902.)

UNITED Statics PATIENT rricn.
VALENTIN KELLER, OF MILWVAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
GARMENT-=SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,351, dated June 3, 1902.
Application filed March 29, 1902. Serial No. 100,566. (No model.)
To It whom, it may concern;
Be it known that I, VALENTIN KELLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Supporters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The improvements consist in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, hereinafter particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed, the object of the invention being to provide simple economical means by which to support underdrawers in connection with trousers.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a side elevation of a garment-supporter in accordance with my invention, partly broken; Fig. 2, an end elevation of the same, partly in vertical section; and Fig. 3, a plan View of the supporter, partly in horizontal section.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A B indicate pivotally-united sections of a gar ment-supporter in accordance with my invention. Section A of the supporter is a strip of sheet metal, preferably steel, herein shown bent to form a lower roll Z) and upward-diverging sides. Some of the metal in the sides of section A is struck outward to form upwardly-inclined barbs c, and ears (1 constitute continuations of said section sides. Section B of the supporter is also a strip of sheet metal, preferably steel, bent in ['1 form' and provided in the bend with a recess 6 for engagement of the ears d of section A, this recess being at that end of said bend farthest from pivot f, by which said sections of the supporter are united.
The sections of the supporter being in their respective working positions, as shown by full lines in the drawings, the device as a whole is positioned so that section A will come between the waistbands of underdrawers and trousers, that are then lapped by section B, serving as a clamp, or section B may be swung to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, section A placed between the waistbands of drawers and trousers, and said section B swung down to lap the inside of said drawers and outside of said trousers, its recess being then engaged by the ears (1 of the other section. In either case the barbs c of section A engage the aforesaid waistbands to support the drawers in connection with the trousers, and the supporter as a whole cannot be detached until its section B is swung to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1.
While I have shown and described supporter-section A as provided with the ears (Z and supporter-section B provided with the recess c, these cars and recess may be omitted without departure from my invention in its generic sense. It is also practical to bend said section A in approximately V form, thus doing away with roll Z), above specified.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A garment-supporter consisting of two pivotally-united sheet-1netal sections, the inner one of which is bent to have upwardlydiverging sides and provided with outwardlyprojecting upwardly-inclined barbs, the outer section being of 0 form and having its sides in opposition to those of said inner section when in normal position.
2. A garment-supporter consisting of two pivotally-united sheet-metal sections, the inner one of which is bent to have upwardlydiverging sides provided with outwardly-projecting upwardly-inclined barbs and upper ears, the outer section being of H form and provided with a recess in its bond for engagement of said ears when in normal position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I havehereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
VALENTIN KELLER.
