SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 699,987, dated May 13, 1902.
Application filed September 13, 1901. Serial No. 75,316. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES TAYLOR and JOHN ROBINs0N,subjects of the King of Great Britain, residing at Lancaster, England, have invented certainnew and useful Improve ments in Pocket Implements, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a combination pocket implement for use as a match-igniter, pipe-cleaner, and for various other purposes; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and which may be conveniently carried in the pocket and whichisalsocomparativelyinexpensive, while being well adapted to accomplish the result for which. it is intended.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of. this specification, in which like letters of reference designate corresponding parts in the several views, Figure l is a plan view of the simplest form of our improvement and showing the device intended for use as a match-striker, pipe-cleaner, &c. Fig. 2 is a side view of the device as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on the line as w of Fig. 2.
In the practice of our invention we provide an implement of the class specified which is primarily intended for a match-striker, pipecleaner, and tobacco-packer, and this implement comprises a main body portion a, composed of sheet metal, larger at one end than at the other and tapered from one end to the other and triangular in cross-section and open at one side whereby two side walls a are formed, which are provided on their inner surfaces with transverse serrations or teeth a forming roughened surfaces which serve as a match-igniter, and the side walls a are brought together at the larger end, and pivoted thereto, as shown at w, is a circular head or plate 0. by means of which tobacco may be packed in the bowl of a pipe. The part a of this device may be used, as willbe readily understood, for cleaning the bowl of the pipe,
and the device may be carried in the pocket or in any suitable receptacle.
This device is simple in construction and operati0n,and it will be apparent that changes in and modifications of the construction herein described maybe made without departing from the spirit of our invention or sacrificing its advantages. 1
