A TTOHNE YS N. PETERS. Pholo-Ilhognphur. Wuhinglun. Dy (4 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES DAVIS WELDON, OF MICA, VASHINGTON.
TOBACCO-PIPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 423,197, dated March 11, 1890.
Application filed November 15, 1889. Serial No. 330,433. (No model.) i
To all whom it 11i/ay concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES DAvIs WEL- DON, of Mica, in the county of Spokane and State of IVashington, have invented a new and improved Tobacco-Pipe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of my new tobacco-pipe, the parts thereof being shown separated from each other. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the pipe shown in the preferred construction. Fig. 3 is a similar View showing a modification, and Fig. 4 is a side view showing the stein made in three sections.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
.A represents the bowl of the pipe, formed with or provided with the stein-section B.
C represents the mouth-piece, connected to the section B by the ferrule D.
In Figs. l. and 2 the lower part of the section B and bowl are bored to form the small passage a to receive the point of the cleaning device E, while in Figs. 3 and 4 only the lower part ofl the bowl is so bored. The cleaner E is of metal secured to one side of the ringf,
which rits on the shank of one of the sections of the stem against one end of the lferrule D, as shown clearly in the drawings. The opening through the sections of the stein is contracted at e' at the bowl and at o" at the end of the mouth-piece. This prevents the drawing through of nicotine, and when the sections are separated enables the wiper E, with a swab or cloth applied thereto, to be easily inserted to thoroughly clean out the interior of the sections.
The stein may be made up of three or more sections, as indicated in Fig. 3.
'By this construction the pipe maybe readily cleaned and the cleaner is always` at hand, and, applied as described, it in no manner disfigures the appearance of the pipe.
Having thus described Iny invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A tobacoo-pipe having its stem made in sections and formed with a recess or socket a, in combination with a cleaner provided with a ring f at right angles to its body and fitted to the joint between the sections of thc stem, the parts being combined and operating in the manner set forth. l
CHARLES DAVIS VELDON.
