HENRY IIUFFSTICKLER, OF GOAL VALLEY, PENNSYLVANIA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 696,177, dated March 25, 1902.
Application iiled May 22, 1901. Serial No. 61,368. (No model.)
Tou/,LN whom, it 11m/,y concer/'71,:
Be it known that I, HENRY HUEESTIQKLER,
a citizen of the United States of America, re-
siding at Coal Valley, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoof-Trimmers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specication.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hoof-trimmers, and has for its object the provision of novel means whereby a cutter-plate is detachably secured to the hoof-trimmer.
The invention consists in a handle having rigidly secured thereto a curved plate in which is removably secured a cutter-plate, this cutter-plate being of a novel form of construction, all of which will be hereinafter more fully explained.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, formin ga part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure lis a front elevation of my improved hoof-trimmer. Fig. 2 is aside elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a rear-view of the curved plate. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of the cutter-plate.
In the drawings the reference numeral 1indicates the handle of the device, in which is rigidly secured a shank 2 of the curved plate 3, this plate having side extensions 4E 4, which are joined together at the upper extremity by a plate 5. The said extensions 4 are also provided with outwardly-extending lugs 6 to form a perfect bearing for the cutter-plate '7. This cutter-plate has formed therein circular openings 8, one side of said openings being bent upwardly in each of said openings to form a cutting edge). The front face of the curved plate 3 has formed therein a recess 10, forming a shoulder 11 to receive the lower end of the cutter-plate. The plate 5 is formed on lits forward face with a shoulder 12, which serves to retain the upper end of the cutter-plate in proper position. The lower end of the cutter-plate is also formed with a cut-away portion 13 to receive the upper edge of the curved plate 3, as shown in-Fig. l of the drawings.
In adjusting the curved blade 7to the curved plate one end of said blade engages the sho ulder 12, with its other end engaging the retaining-shoulder 11, while the longitudinal edges rest upon said lugs 6.
It will be noted that many advantages are obtained by the use of my improved device v and that a new plate may be substituted in case the cutter becomes worn or when it is desired torinsert in the hoof-trimmer a cutterplate of larger or smaller openings.
It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hoof-trimmer, comprising the curved plate with handle secured thereto, said plate refcessed at lO forming a retaining-shoulder 11,
the longitudinal edges of said plate having flanges, a shoulder 12'near the free end of the plate, lugs on the outer faces of said flanges, combined With the curved cutting-blade 7 ,recessed at 14 and having iianged edges which .fit over the flanges of said plate, and held by HENRY HUFFSTICKLER.
