SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 693,134, dated February 11, 1902. Application filed June 8 1901. Serial No. 63,860. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I,

a citizen of the United States, residing near Emden, in the county of Logan and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Scoop-Boards, of which the folto form a scoop-board and of providing an ex-' tension or platform to adapt the vehicle for the grain-elevating machine shown and described in application, Serial No. 63,861, filed by me June 8, 1901.

Theinvention consists in the construction and 110%1 combination andarrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a rear elevation of an end-gate constructed in accordance with this invention, the end-gate being closed and the extension -section being arranged in a vertical position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, the extension-section being folded back. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view. Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views illustrating the manner of mounting the adjustable side brackets on the sides of the wagon-body.

1 designates an end-gate provided at its botresilient catches 7 are disposed horizontally, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings, and their inner adjacent ends are free and are adapted to engage rods 8, whereby the end-gate is locked in a closed position. The rods, which are provided at their lower or outer ends with rings 9, have hooks 10 at their inner or upper ends for engaging eyes or openings 11 of approximately L-shaped brackets 12, adjustably mounted on the exterior of the sides 13 of the wagonbody. The L shaped brackets have horizontal arms at their tops extending rearward from the sides of the wagon-body and provided with the said eyes or openings 11. The other arms of the brackets are arranged approximately vertically in grooves 14 of plates 15 and are provided with longitudinal slots 16 for the reception of bolts 17, passing through the slots and the plates and the sides of the wagon-body and securing the plates to the latter and retaining the brackets in their adjusted position. The vertical arms of the brackets are provided at their inner faces with corrugations 18, and the plates have corresponding corrugations or teeth arranged in the grooves 14 and adapted to be engaged by the teeth of the brackets, whereby the latter are prevented f rom slipping. The plates are provided at opposite sides with inwardly-extending lugs or projections 19, which are seated in suitable sockets of the wagon-body.

20 and 21, and the upper one is extended to form laterally-projecting arms 22, which are provided with slots or openings for the reception of the horizontal arms of the brackets. When the rods are swung downward and secured in the position illustrated in Fig. 1, they extend transversely of the slots or openings of the arms 22, and

The end gate is supported when swung downward to form a scoop-board by means of the rods 8 and the rings engaging the laterally-projecting arms 22 and forming stops for the same. In order to prevent the end-gate from slipping when it is arranged to form a scoop-board, a book 23 is provided. What I claim is 1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a wagon-body, of an endgate, an extension-section hinged to the endgate and adapted to form a continuation thereof to provide a platform, aracksupport ed by the end-gate and the extension-section, and means for supporting the end-gate and the extension-section in position for forming a platform, substantially as described.

2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a wagon-body, of an endgate, an extension-section hinged to the endgate at the top thereof and adapted toform a contin uation of the same, means for support ing the end-gate, and a folding brace connected with the end-gate and with the extensionsection and adapted to support the latter and capable of permitting the same to swing downward, substantially as described.

3. In a device of the class described, the combination with a wagon-body, of an endgate, an extension-section hinged to the endgate at the top thereof, arms extending from the end-gate, and the folding braces composed of sections hinged together at their adjacent ends and pivoted at their outer ends to the arms of the end-gate and to the extension-section, substantially as'described.

4. In a device of the class described, the combination of a wagon-body having eyes at its bottom, an end-gate provided with arms detachably engaging the eyes, the beveled block secured to the bottom of the body,and the depending hook or catch arranged to engage the block when the end-gate is swung downward, whereby the arms are retained in the eyes, substantially as described.
