Description

iluitrh ats letraf @Hirn B. VVOODBURY, OF ASHUELOT, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
Letters Patent No. 69,149, {Zt/.ted September 24, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN .TACK-SPINNING MACHINE.`
ilgr .Segnale rasant ,tu in tlgrse tcttus @kunt mit mating tutt tt tige stmt T() ALL PERSONS TO WHO THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME:
Be it known that I, A. B. IVOODBURLVO' Ashuelot, in the county ot' Cheshire, and State of New Hampshire, have made a new and useful invention having reference to the Jack-Spinning Machineg and do hereby declare thc same to be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a. top View of ajack-carriage and frame as provided with my invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse section thereof.
The purpose of my invention is to effect the even winding ot' the yarn upon the spindles while the carriage is beingr run in from time to time.
To this end I arrange cn the carriage A, and at or about at the middle thereof, a hollow post or standard, B, having a slot, a, extending through its front side. Within the said standard I place a litter, C, consisting of a bar, Z1, and an arr'n, c, extending from the upper end of such bnr and through the slot. The said bar has a rack or series, e, of teeth applied to one side of it. The arm or projection e extends directly underneath the taller or wire f, connected to the ends of arms g g g projecting from a shaft, gl. This faller or wire is arranged in the ordinary manner with respect to the series of' 'spindles :1l-nd bobbins of the jack-carriage A, two of which bobbing are cxhibitedat 7a L in the drawings. A spur-gear, z', on a horizontal shaft, 7c, engages with the ra-el; a, there being a ratchet, Z, fixed on the said shaft. A lever, mi, carrying one or more pawls, n, to operate the ratchet, and arranged with respect to it in manner as represented in the drawings, is carried in Contact with a tripper, o, when the carriage is run-in, such tripper being extended down from the jack-frame D. This tripper, formed as shown in front view in Figure 3, serves to elevate the longer arm of the lever, and thereby turn the lever on its fulcrnm so as to cause its pawl or pawls to act upon and turn the ratchet. This will cause the shaft 1r and the spur-gear z' to revolve and raise the rack, and of course the faller or wire short distance. Thus, preparatory to each winding of the yarn upon the bobbins, the faller or wirewill be raised a. little by the operation of the mechanism, as described, for accomplishing such. This regular elevation ofthe faller or wire will canse the yarn to be laid evenly on the bobbins. n is the Vretaining pawl.
I claim, in combination with the jack-carriage and the faller or wire, mechanism, substantially as described, for intermittently raising the faller or wire in order to regulate the laying ot" the yarns upon the bobbins while the carriage is being run in from time to time. i v
I also claim the combination, substantially as described, applied to the jack-carriage, faller or wire, and frame for regulating the laying of the yarns upon the bobbins. such consisting of the lifter e', the spur-gear and ratchet, the lever and its pawl or pawls, and the tripper, the whole being applied together and to the earriage and frame, and with respect to the taller or wire, as hereinbefore explained.
