Be it known that I, ABBIE A. HENSHAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Vermilion and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful DetachableGarment-Clasp, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to means for easily and firmly fastening together separate articles of wearing-apparel or difierent parts of the same article of wearing-apparel; and the object of my invention is to provide an easily attached and detached fastening which will serve to firmly hold together the garments or parts of the same garment, at the same time permitting easy separation of the parts so held when desired without removing the clasp or fastening itself.

In a general way my invention consists in a clasp comprising 'two members, one being a hook of particular construction, to which a locking or safety pin is rigidly and suitably attached, and the other member consisting of an eye or loop for engagement by said hook, said eye or loop being also rigidly and suitably attached to a locking or safety pin; and my invention further consists in the various details of construction and in combinations of parts, all as hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying draw-- ings, forming a part of this specification, and in which-- Figure 1 is a view of the two members in combination. Fig. 2 is a view of the opposite side of the hook member from that shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a View of the opposite side of the eye member from that shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a central section of the hook member on the line m a: of Fig. 2.

In the drawings the numeral 2 represents a brace and guard-plate, consisting of a thin elongated strip of metal with one slightly concave and one slightly convex side or edge and rounded ends to prevent wearing or'tearing of the material to which the clasp may be attached. under side of said plate is made concave in order to avoid abrupt corners or angles in the plate, and thus subject the garment to liability of being torn, and to prevent weakening the plate at the base of the hook when the blank is cut by the die. The convex side or edge of the plate 2 is provided with a latorally-extending portion, substantially triangular in shape and bent upon itself to form the hook 3, with a comparatively narrow ex- I also prefer to construct this hook with the dent or notch 5 at its extremity or near the same, which will tend to retain the hook and eye in engagement except when it is desired to disengage the same.

The blank from which the guard-plate of the hook member is made has four small projections or ears, two of which are located on the convex side of the plate and are bent or looped over to form the rigid fasteners 6 and 7 Another projection, preferably at one extremity of the plate, forms the link 8, and the fourth projection is bent into the U-shaped catch and guard 9, located at the other extremity of said plate. A wire 10 is firmly clasped by the fasteners 6 and 7, preferably double-looped through the link 8, and terminates in a sharp point adapted to be engaged by the U-shaped catch and guard 9.

The eye member consists of an ordinary safety-pin, to the fixed portion of the wire of which is rigidly attached a thin metal plate 11, preferably having the outline shown and provided with the longitudinal slot 12,througl1 which the hook 3 is adapted to pass. I have shown the pin and plate firmly connected by looping and compressing the end of the plate around the wire of the pin, and as a preferable construction I provide the pin with a laterally-extending bend 13 in the fixed portion of the wire thereof, the plate 11 being mounted upon this bent portion of the wire to insure perfect rigidity.

1 am aware that a few somewhat similar de vices are now being used intended to serve much the same purpose as the inventionde= scribed herein, some having both hook and eye members made each from a single wire, but it is held that none of them possess the peculiar advantages of the construction shown.

Having thus described my invention, I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent i 1. 3. A detachable garment-clasp comprising a hook member consisting of an elongated guard-plate, having one slightly concave and one slightly convex side and rounded ends,

and having a laterallyextended portion upon convex side thereof bent upon itself to form a hook, and an eye member consisting of a plate With a longitudinal slot therein adapted to be engaged by said hook, said guard-plate being provided with the fasteners for clasping, the link for guiding, andthe U-shaped catch for looking a looped-Wire pin, and said eye member-being rigidly attached to the fixed portion of the Wire of an ordinary safety-pin.

4. A detachable garment-clasp comprising a hook member and eye member, said hook member consisting of a guard-plate with a laterally-extending, substantially triangular shaped. portion bent upon itself to form a hook, and notched at the extremity thereof, and said eye member consisting of a plate having longitudinal slot therein, said guardplate being provided with the fasteners for clasping, the link for guiding, and the U- shaped catch for locking a looped-Wire pin, and said eye member being rigidly attached to the fixed portion of the Wire of an ordinary safetypin, said Wire being laterally bent Where engaged by the eye-plate to more firmly hold the samein place.
