CHUTE D005.
(Application filed Nov. 22, 1900.)
(No Model.)
RICHARD A. HURON, OF ORIPPLEOREEK, COLORADO.
CHUTE=DOOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 684,512, dated October 15, 1901.
Application filecl November 22,1900. Serial No. 37.360. (Nd model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RICHARD A. HURON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cripplecreek, State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Chute- Doors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to chute doors or spouts for ores, coal, grain, &c., and has for its object to so construct the same that by the simple manipulation of a spring-actuated lever it may be released and then revolved or tilted, so that the ore again catches it and is held thereby until the spring is again released.
In the drawings forming apart of this specification, and in which like symbols of reference represent corresponding parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a front View lookinto the mouth of the chute, and Fig. 3 a sectional side view of the same.
lindicates the chute, 2 the tilting door leading to the same, and 3 a cross-bar upon which the door is journaled.
4 is a lever having a lateral projection or bolt 5 extending through an orifice 6 in the side of the chute and having also a handle 7 for the manipulation of the same.
8 is a guard to protect the lever and regulate the play of the same, and 9 a spring attached, by means of staples 10, to the sides of the chute, the object of the same being to normally hold the lever 4 in its operative position.
The door is preferably made of plate-iron, with the cross-bar or journal also preferably of iron.
The operation of my device is as follows: The chute being full of ore, by operating the lever, and thus pulling the bolt out, the ore forces the door open, and when a sufiicient amount of ore has run out to fill the car or bucket by tilting the near end of the door up the back end will drop into the running ore, which will force it down against the belt, which the spring 9 normally holds in place, thus stopping the ore from running out.
Having now fully described myinvention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a chute having a perforation formed in the side of the same, a tilt= ing door journaled in the chute, a bolt-carryin glever connected with the side of the chute, said bolt entering the perforation in the path of the door, a handle to operate the lever, and a spring supported on the side of the chute and resting on the lever to normally hold the door in its locked position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RICHARD A. HURON.
