JACOB D. RUSH, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
GARMENT-HOLDER.
SPEGIFICATXON forming part of Letters Patent No. 684,312, dated October 8, 1901.
Application filed November 1, 1900. Serial No. 35,120. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
]3eit known that I, JACOB D. RUSH, acitiz'en of the United States, residing at San Diego, county of San Diego, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Garment-Holders; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to improvements in devices commonly known as clothes hooks or holders.
It consists of the improved garment-holder hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 represents the device made of a plate. Fig. 2 shows the device made of wire.
A represents a holder, which may be of cast or stamped metal or may be made of a single piece of wire having upon its horizontal portion the hanging-points 2 and depressions 4, and on its vertical portion may be other points, as 3. The holder has a vertical base portion standing at about right angles to the top portion and adapted to fit squarely against the wall or support, the whole device constitutin g a rigid unitary structure having a horizontal row of suspending parts and a vertical series of receding points.
It is common in clothes-hooks to have the hanging-hook curve upwardly and terminate in a point, which point or outer end not only injures the shape of the garment, but many times actually forces a hole through the garment. My invention obviates this difficulty by furnishing a broad bearing surface or edge and at the same time holds the garment securely and allows a number of articles to be hung up and removed without the necessity of covering up others, or of removing some to get an article hung beneath. In other words,
my device instead of consisting of a number of extending hooks really consists of a number of depressions in a horizontal portion, and the suspending-points are the intervening projections left between these depressions.
The depressions 4. are formed in the horizontal portion of the holder, and said depressions have substantially straight bottoms and parallel end Walls, which incline down and outward, the spaces between the depressions forming broad fiat-top surfaces or hangingpoints, as shown.
These holders may be attached by a screw portion, as 6, or by any other suitable means.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Agarment-holder of a right-angled-triangular form having a plain vertical portion, depressions formed in the horizontal portion of said holder, said depressions having their walls inclined down and outward, with said walls essentially parallel and means whereby said holder may be rigidly and immovably secured to the wall.
2. A garment-holder consisting of a rightangled-triangular piece of metal, having a vertical portion adapted to bear against the wall or support, depressions formed in the horizontal portion of said triangle, with intermediate projections havingbroad flat-top surfaces, said depressions having substantially straight horizontal bottoms and having their walls inclined down and outward, and said walls essentially parallel, a plurality of depressions upon the hypotenuse portion of said triangle, the portion of the triangle between these depressions forming hooks, and
means upon the vertical portion adjacent to the vertex of the right angle whereby the holder may be secured to the wall.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JACOB D. RUSH;
Witnessesi L. N. CRAIG, E. E. SHAFFER.
