SAFETY FORK-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 513,202, dated January 23, 1894.

To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GUSTUS SAssE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vienna, in the county of Clark and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Fork-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invent-ion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention has relation to an improvement in racks or holders, for hay-forks, and other implements of a similar character, and it has for its object to provide such a device at a minimum expense, which will be effective in holding one or more forks, and which will require little or no experience in placing the same in the holder.

Other objects and advantages will appear from the following description and claims when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1, is a front view of my improved device, illustrating in full lines, a fork in the position which it assumes when placed in the rack or holder, and in dotted lines, the position in which it is introduced into the holder, and Fig. 2, is a perspective view of my improved device complete.

Referring by letter to said drawings: A, indicates the base plate, which may be made of metal, or other suitable material, and is provided with screw holes a, for the reception of screws b, or other suitable fastening devices, whereby it may be secured to a wall, post, or other suitable support. Extending horizontally from the face of this plate A, are two parallel rods or branches 0. These branches which extend parallel and horizontal from their inner ends to a suitable point in their length, are provided on their upper sides and at correspondingpoints, with notched bearings d, and one of the branches curves upwardly oblique, as shown at e, and thence outwardly oblique, and across the plane of the lower branch, as at f, while the other branch is carried downwardly oblique, as at g, and thence slightly outward, and across the plane of the other branch, as at It, so that while the horizontal portions of these rods or branches, are parallel, the parts 6, and g, are

also parallel or approximately so. By this construction itwill be seen that while a fork, or other like implement, can be placed between the branches, by giving such imple ment .a slight incline, yet when placed between the parallel portions of the branches and the handles removed,the implement will be held in a suspended position and will be securely retained and guarded against casual displacement. In the present illustration, I have shown three sets of notches, but it is obvious that more or less maybe used, and when a fork,or the like has been placed in the rack or holder, the head of the implement will bear .in the notches, and in placing a number of forks in the rack, it will be seen that each will be held separated from the other.

Having described my invention, what I claim is r 1. The improved fork holder, having the two branches arranged horizontally and parallel to each other,' and having their outer ends curved obliquely in opposite directions and separated from each other in approximately parallel planes, to receive a fork,substantially as specified.

2. The improved fork holder, having the two parallel horizontal branches, with their outer ends turned obliquely in opposite directions, and arranged parallel or approxi mately so to each other, and having their terminal ends turned outwardly, and also having the notched bearings on the upper sides of the horizontal portions, substantially as specified.

8. Theimproved fork holder described, con sisting essentially of the base, adapted to be secured to a suitable support, the two horizontal branches, extending from said base, and having theirouter ends directed obliquely in opposite directions, and parallel or approximately so to each other, and their terminal ends carried across the respective planes of the parallel portions, and also having the notched bearings on the upper sides of said parallel portions, substantially as specified.
