T() ALL WHQM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known. that I, B. F. WOODSID, of Atlanta, in the county ot' Fulton, and Sta-te oli' Georgifnhave v invented a. new and improved Bellet-end.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the stl-me, reference being had to `the accompanying drawings, forming port ot' this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a. vertical longitudinal section of my improved hedstead, taken through the line :v x, fig. 2.
Figure 2 is a top or plan View ofthe same, pui-tbv in section, through the line y y, tig. 1.
Figure?) is :1n under side View of the some when folded, partly in section, through the line z z, -fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
My invention has for its'objeet to furnish :m improved bedstead so constructed and arranged ns to be easilyr and quickly folded into a. compact form for storage, transportation, or for speedy removal from the house in ense of ire; and it consists in hinging vthe Slat-frames to the end rails 01' ports ofithe beilsteztd, and ilrmaking the-side rails in two parts, hinged to each other at the centre, ond to the posts at their ends; the whole being constructed und arranged as hereinafter more fully described.
A and B are the head posts, and() and `D are the footposts of the bedsteud. E are the side rails, und F arevthehend railsor parts of the bedstead. The end rails F are made und attached to the posts A B C in the usual manner. G :tre the slatffraxnes, the ends of the cross-slnts gl of which are securely attached to the side bars g2, which extend from the ends of the bedstead to its centre, es shown in tig. 2. The slat-frames G are hinged :it their ends to the end rails F, os shown in figs. 1 and 2, so that they may be turned into n verti cal position along the inner sides of the head and foot boards, as shown in iig-3. p rlhe side rails E are madel each in two parts, e1 and e, and e3 and e", as shown in figs., 1, 2, end The parts el and e2 are hinged to euch `other at the middle of the hedstend, and arehinged at their ends to the posts A and C. The parts e3 and c4 ot' the other side rail ure hinged in the same way. The hinges are so arranged that the side rails may be folded inward, as shown in iig. 3. H are pins, attached to and projecting from the inner sides ,of the side rails E, to support the slut-frames G, the side hers g2 of which rest upon them. Upon the inner sides of the ports e and c" oftheside rails E, are formed holes, in such positions that when the bedstead is folded the middle pins of the seid parts el andA e* may enter the said holes, enablingi the bedstead to be folded more 'compactly than it could otherwise be. I is a. hook, pivoted to the under side-of one of the end rails F, which7 when the bedstead.
is folded, hooks into a. staple attached tothe under side of the other end rail, and which, when the bedstead is extended, hooks into a. staple attached to the under side of the rail towhieh the said hook is pivoted.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent., is
1. The slet-frame G, hinged to the end rails F, in such a. manner as to be v.each folded vertically against thehend and foot boards, and when turned down, to rest upon the pins H, in the hinged side rails E, thereh)7 holding them spread and the bedsteadin position, as herein set forth for the purpose specified.
2.` The sections c! :ind c* ofthe side rails E, `provided with holes for the reception of the pins H upon the sections c2 e, when folded together,-whereby the bedstead is folded more compaetly, and vertical movement of the section permitted as herein set forth for the purpose specified.
B. F. WOODSIDE.
