CLASPFOR HOLDING TIES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 680,109, dated August 6, 1901.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that We, ANDREW J. BARR and JACOB W.WEIL, citizens of the United States, and residents of Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clasps for Holding Teck or other Similar Ties, of which the'following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in a clasping device for holding the tie and neckband of a teck or other similar tie in place, in which a piece of solid sheet metal or other suitable material is blanked out, shaped, and formed in a novel and simple manner, thereby making a simple, efficient, and an economical clasping device for holding a teck or other similar tie in its proper place and making it conform to the circumference of any size 001- lar and obviating the necessity of using a scarf-pin or needle thereon.
The objects of our improvements are, first, to provide a clasping device to hold a teck or other similar tie in its proper place without the use of a scarf-pin or needle; second, to
construct a clasping device that is simple,
practical, and easy to adjust to conform to the circumference of any size collar. We attain these objects by means of thenovel construction of our clasping device, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the outline of an ordinary teck-tie, showing a top plan view of the clasp attached to the tie, with the neckband inserted therein. Fig. 2 is a top end view of the clasp, showing the slot cut therein. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the clasp detached from the tie. Fig. lis a side view. Fig. 5 is a top plan View in perspective of the clasp.

The tie A is an ordinary teck-tie with the clasp I) attached and the neckband c inserted in the slot thereof. The clasp b is preferably made of sheet metal. A blank is first cut out of solid sheet metal of any desired gage. Both ends of said blank d d are tapered longitudinally with the side of the blank. A slot 6, having each end thereof rounded, is cut in said blank, into which slot the neckband is inserted. A series of holesff are punched or drilled in said blank, the purpose of which is to provide a means of fastening the clasp to the tie in the ordinary way by sewing the which presses against the face of the blank,
provides a means to adjust the neckband of the tie and retain it in place. The lower end h of the blank immediately to the right and left of the lower holes ff is turned up longitudinally with the sides of the blank and ex tending near the upper end, thereby providing a guide for the neckband 0 when it is inserted in or withdrawn from the slot 6 in the clasp.
The letter i shows the form of a loop which provides a means for giving tension to the clasp. When the clasp is made and formed in proper shape, it is hardened, and given a spring temper.
This method of constructing a clasp provides a simple, economical, and practical means of retaining teck or other similar ties in place, thereby removing and obviating the trouble and annoyance of using a scarf-pin or needle.
What We claim as ourinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
