FREDERICK G. HENNING, OF PERTH AMBOY, NEW JERSEY.
COMBINATION-TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 679,260, dated July 23, 1901. Application filed November 10, 1900. Serial No. 36,075. (No 'model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Beit known that I, FREDERICK G. HENNING, a citizen of the United States, residin g at Perth Amboy, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and use ful Combination-Tool, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in combination-tools; and the object is to provide a simple and convenient tool which will be exceedingly useful in the household, it be ing adapted for use in various connections.
With the above object in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, particularly pointed out in the claim, and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View showing my invention in the closed position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the same in the open position, and Fig. 3 is a plan view in the position shown in Fig. 2.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, A designates one of the members of the tool, having formed at one end a plier-jaw B and in rear of said jaw with a serrated wrench-jaw O. The plierjaw B is formed in its end with a notchD for the purpose of pulling tacks. In rear of the serrated portion 0 said member is formed with a longitudinally-extending slot E and at the rear end of said slot with two spaced lugs F, which are perforated to receive the pivotal pin of the other member of the tool, presently to be described. The opposite or handle end of the member is enlarged slightly and bent at an angle to the main portion of said member and is formed with a square opening G. Said member is also formed adjacent to the jaws with a hammer portion H. The other member of the tool is formed of two arms I and J, arm I being the handle portion and is pivoted intermediate its ends between the pair of lugs F of member A by a pivotal pin K. The inner end of said arm I is formed with a tongue L, extending between bifurcations M of arm J, where it is pivoted by a pin N. Arm J is formed intermediate its ends with a lug O, which extends into the slot E of member A, it being movably secured in said slot by a pin P, extending through said lug and movable in longitudinally-extending slots Q, formed in the side walls of slot E. Said arm J is formed at its outer end with a plier-jaw R, coacting with jaw 13 of member A, and in rear of said jaw with a wrench-j aw S, coacting with the wrenchjaw O of said member A. The angular handle end of member A is used as a stoveshaker, the square slot G being for the purpose of receiving the end of the grate operating the bar of the stove. The jaws of the two members not only coact to adapt the tool for use as a pair of pliers or as a wrench, but also as a lifting device for cooking utensils.
The tool is also adapted for various other uses, which will be apparent and need not be set forth herein.
From the above description it will be seen that I have produced an exceedingly simple and effective construction of combinationtool which will be especially useful about the kitchen and which may be sold at a very low price.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A combination-tool comprising a member having a jaw formed at one end and a longitudinal slot in the rear of said jaw and longitudinally-extending slots cutting the firstmentioned slot and extending at right angles thereto, a second member comprising two arms pivoted together, one of said arms being pivoted to the first-mentioned member, and the other arm having a jaw formed on its end and a lug extending into the longitudinal slot of said first-mentioned member, and a pin extending through said lug and mov ing in the longitudinally-extending slots of said member, substantially as described.
FREDERICK G. HENNING.
