MAXXVELL OARRINGTON, OF WEBSTER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO ANDREW J. BATES, OF SAME PLACE.
CONFECTION ERS FOLDING BOX.
SEEGIFIGATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 677,017, dated June 25, 1901.
Application filed October 22,1900. Serial No- 33-,809. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, MAXWELL CARRINGTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Webster, in the county of W'orcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Confectioners Folding Box, of which the following is a specification.
The aim of this invention is to produce a new and improved folding paper box especially adapted for use by Confectioners for holding charlotte russe, chicken patty, &c.
To this end the invention consists in making the box-blank of one integral piece having a side strip which is provided with looking means at its ends and a bottom piece integrally connected thereto by a tongue, so that the box can be readily formed by bending up the tongue and bottom and securing the ends of the side strips together.
The accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, illustrate the invention.
Referring to said drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank, and Fig. 2 is an elevation of the box when set up.
In detail, A designates the side strip. The same is made curved in shape, and its edges (0 b are scalloped, as shown. The side strip is provided with slits d d near one end and with locking-tongues e e at its other end.
A circular bottom B is formed integrally with the side piece A and is connected to the side piece by the tongue 0.
\Vhen it is desired to set up the box, the bottom piece is doubled back on the side strip on the dotted lines indicated in Fig. 1 and the tongues e e are inserted in the slits d (1.
As the side strip is curved this will produce a box which is in the shape of a truncated cone, and this shape, in connection with the tongue 0, will rigidly support the bottom B in place, as indicated in Fig. 2, at some distance above the bottom of the box.
The box can be quickly opened to remove the contents by snapping the tongues e e out of the slits d d.
The blank above described can be economically cut out of stock.
By making a folding or knockdown box in this Way a device is provided which can be easily kept in'bulk, which can be easily set up for use, and which has the advantage that it can be quickly snapped apart to remove the contents.
In the ordinary charlotte'russe or chickenpatty box it is necessary to remove the contents by shaking the same out. This is avoided by my improved construction.
The details and shapes herein described may be Varied without departing from the scope of my invention as expressed in the claims.
. Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an article of manufacture, a folding box comprising a side strip with locking connections at its ends for forming a tapering or truncated box-body, and a bottom piece connected with the side strip by an integral tongue, whereby when the box is set up, the box-bottom will be located far enough up into the tapering box-body to be supported thereby, substantially as described.
2. As an article of manufacture, a folding box comprising a side strip A having lockingtongues e e and slits d d for securing the ends of the side strip together to form a tapering or truncated box-body, and a circular bottom B connected with the side strip A by an integral tongue 0, whereby when the box is set up the box-bottom will be located far enough up into the tapering box-body to be supported thereby, substantially as described.
3. As an article of manufacture, a folding box comprising a curved side strip A having locking-tongues e e and slits d d, and having scalloped edges for forming the top and bottom edges of a tapering or truncated box body, and a circular bottom B connected With the side strip by an integral tongue 0, Whereby the box-bottom will be located far enough up into the tapering box-body to be supported thereby when the box is set up, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAXWELL CARRINGTON.
