COMBINED MERCHANTS DISPLAY AND STOCK'CABINET.

SEECIFICATION formingpart 0f Letters Patent No. 676,157, dated June 11, 1 901.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES SPARKS, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Merchants Display and Stock Cabinet, of which the following is a full, clear,and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication.

My invention relates to a cabinet provided with drawers adapted t0 contain a stock of merchandise and to hold exterior of said drawers articles of merchandise for display such as are contained by the drawers.

. The invent-ion4 consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

l designates the side walls of the cabinet, which are joined together by a base 2 and a cross-piece 3. (See Fig. II.)

4 designates drawers arranged in stepped series and slidingly arranged between the side walls l of the cabinet, each drawer being provided with grooves 5, (see Fig. IIL) that receive guide strips or runners 6, which are set into grooves l of the side walls l. rlhe drawers are thereby arranged and so supported as to be readily slid to and fro between the side walls l, and their rearward movement is limited by tongues 7, fixed to the bottoms of the drawers and adapted to strike against stops 8 when the drawers are moved rearwardly. Extending transversely of the cabinet between the walls l are vertical facingboards 9, that occupy positionsin front of ""each drawer 4.

l0 designates inclined shelves loosely mounted on all of the` drawers 4 except the topmost one, the said shelves being supported in inclined position by tapering strips 1l,

that are rabbeted on their under sides, as shown at 12, (see Fig. IIL) to fit the upper edges of the side walls of the drawers. Each shelf lO is provided at its rear edge with a cleat 13, surmounting the shelf and arranged to close the space between the shelf and the surmounting drawer, as seen in Fig. II. The drawers of the cabinet are adapted to contain a stock of the merchandise offered for sale, and the inclined shelves l0 and 10a surmounting the drawers provide for the display of articles taken from the stock within the drawers. p

In the use of the cabinet the drawers are readily moved rearwardly and the shelves may be easily lifted from the drawers to place them before the purchaser for closer observation, it being understoodthat the cabinet should be positioned within a glass show-case, so as to prevent dust and dirt from settling on the displayed articles. When a purchase is made by a customer, the drawers are in convenient position for the extraction of an article of the same description as that displayed and selected by the purchaser, or the article displayed may be sold and be replaced by another taken from the stock in the drawer.

I claim as my invention- In a cabinet of the character described, the combination ofthe side walls,a series of drawers arranged in stepped positions and slidingly mounted between said walls, shelves surmounting the forward ends of said drawers, and tapering rabbeted strips arranged beneath said shelves and adapted to rest upon the side walls of said drawers, substantially as described.
