Beit known that I, ANTHONY E. MAGoRIs, a citizen of the United States of America, 'residingatBinghamton,in the countyofBroom'e and State of New York, -have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Garment- Supporters, of whichthe following is a specification. t

My invention relates to an improvement in garment-supporters; and one ofthe primary objects is to provide an article of apparel which is easy of adjustment to the body of the wearer, at the same time affording ease and comfort, resulting from its ability to eX- pand as the body bloats or enlarges, as itfrequently does at the menstrual periods or from other causes. Further objects are to provide a garment supporter which may be easily laundered, just like any other garment, and one which can be made and sold at a trifling cost and which will accurately [it and adjust itself to the body and afford a safeguard against loss of the articles held thereby.

Vith these objects in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be more fully described hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a View in perspective of myimproved garment'- supporter, showing the parts attached theretc. Fig. 2 is a View of a detachable substitute part of the supporter, and Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are sectional views of details.

A represents the belt. This may be made of any suitable material, perfectly straight or shaped to conform to the form of the body by folding it over and stitching it down or by cutting the fabric of the belt on the bias and sewing the ends thus cut together at places, as indicated at points l l in Fig. l, or shaped in the form of a crescent and in a single piece. At the center the double plait or bias seam 2 may be formed, if desired, to assist in bringing about this adjustment to the form. These plaits or seams also serve as reinforces to strengthen the belt at the points Where they are located. The extreme ends of the belt are folded over, as indicated at 3 3, thus giving a double thickness, and they may be secured by stitches or otherwise at the plaits l 1. These folds also reinforce and give increased strength to the belt at these points,

- or supplemental pieces may be secured to the ends of the belt by stitching or otherwise and provided with eyelets or other securing means, as hereinafter described. In the outer folds of the reinforced ends and of the double plait 2 or bias seam at the rear eyelets 4 4 or other receiving means are formed, these being adapted for a purpose which will be described hereinafter. Depending from the reinforced ends or from any suitable point on the belt are the straps 6 6, which have buckles 7 7 or other fastening devices for the attachment of the garters for the support of the wearers hose.

B indicates a connecting-strip for fastening the ends of the belt adjustably about the wearers waist when the garment-supporter is used exclusively for supporting the stockings. In the constructions shown this strip comprises a short piece of webbing similar to that used in the construction of the belt itself, or it may be elastic, if preferred. This strip is provided at each end with a hook 8 or other fastening means adapted to enter eyelets 4 4 or other receiving means in the ends of the belt, and the object of providing several of these eyelets will at this point be made manifest, as it is to provide for adjusting the belt to the size of the wearers waist, the hooks being inserted in the eyelets which fall at the required position when the belt is as tight or loose as desired. The object of forming the eyelets through the outer fold of the fabric solely is also readily understood, as it prevents the hook from projecting through `against the wearers body or any garment which may be next beneath the belt, thus preventing irritation of the skin or tearing or fraying of the garments.

O indicates a triangular pendent attachment, preferably made of elastic sides 9 9 9, which are connected together at their ends by a double fold of webbing constituting rigid and unyielding tabs or ends, and in the upper two of these hooks 10 10 or'other fastening means are secured, whereas at the lower one a clasp, buckle, or other fastening device 1l is attached. The object lof this pendant is to serve as a substitute for the removable strip B when the supporter is to be used for holding a surgical or other bandage,

and when thus used the hooks or other fastening means are inserted in the eyelets or other receiving means just as with the strip B, previously described, and by the use of the triangular-shaped elastic pendant the latter is made to conform tightly to the wearers body without increasing the thickness of the garment and at the same time fitting and conforming comfortably to the form. A pendant or sling of this characterthat is to say, elastic on all sidesallows perfect freedom of movement and change of position of the body from standing to sitting or any other position without the drawing or friction occasioned by the usual arrangement of belts or supporters. Vhen this pendant or sling is used,

the strap D, preferably elastic, is also attached to the rear by means of a hook or other suitable fastening means l5 to the belt in the center of the back and at its lower end is provided with a suitable fastening device 13, as a clasp or buckle, in which is retained one end of a surgical or other bandage. When the garment-supporter is laundered, both the pendant and elastic strap are removed., so that the elastic is not injured.

In addition to the various parts shown it is evident that the pendant or sling as well as the rear strap might be made of inelastic material, if desired, although elastic is preferred, and it is likewise quite as evident that in lieu of the hooks and eyelets buckles might be employed or buttons and buttonholes used, or, in fact, any equivalent and convenient fastening means would serve equally as well in many instances, although the hooks and eyes afford a quick and convenient means of attachment and detachment. Likewise other forms of clasps or buckles might be used at the lower ends of the pendant or sling and the strap, and safety-pins or the like would serve the purpose very satisfactorily. It is true, also, that the article might be employed for other purposes than those named, and it is needless to specify such various applications herein; but,

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:

1. As an article of manufacture,a garmentsupporter comprisinga belt, the ends of which are folded over and plaited to constitute reinforces, a rear pendant removably secured to the belt, a removable front pendant, one side of which constitutes a section of the belt, positive means on this front section and on the belt for adjusting the size of the belt, and depending straps secured to the reinforced ends of the belt whereby any strain upon the straps is supported by the strengthened belt.

2. As an article of manufacture,a garmentsupporter comprising a belt, the ends of which are folded over and plaited to constitute reinforces, a removable section adjustably connected at two of its ends to the reinforced ends of the belt,the removable section formed into a napkin-supporting pendant at its free end, and depending straps secured to the reinforced ends of the belt, the straps provided with fastening means at their lower ends.

3. As an article of man ufacture,a garmentsupporter comprising a non-elastic belt, the ends of which are folded over and secured to afford reinforces, the outer folds having a plurality of eyelets therein, a removable section having hooks at its ends adapted to enter the eyelets.

4. As an article of manufacture,a garmentsupporter, comprising a non-elastic belt, the ends of which are folded over and secured to afford reinforces, the outer folds having a plurality of eyelets therein, a removable seetion having hooks at its ends adapted to enter the eyelets and straps depending from the reinforced ends of the belt and provided with fastening at their lower ends.

5. The combination with the belt of a garment-supporter, said belt having a box-plait formed at the center and plaits at the sides, and the ends folded over and secured at the side plaits` said ends and boX-plaits having eyelets therein, and depending garter-supporters, of two removable parts C, and D, having hooks for attachment to and detachment from the said eyelets.

6. The combination with a beltthe ends of which are folded over and plaited, of straps. depending from the belt and provided with fastening means at their lower ends, removable pendants D and C, one pendant being 1o) triangular in form with an open center.

7. The combination with a belt, the ends of which are plaited and folded back uponthemselves to constitute reinforces, of hosesupporting straps secured to the reinforced 105 ends of the belt whereby all strain is borne by the reinforces, a removable rear pendant and a removable elastic front pendant, the front pendant formed triangularly, one side of which constitutes a section of the belt, 11o means whereby the size of the belt may be adjusted with reference to the pendant, the ends of which are reinforced.

8. As an article of manufactnre,a garmentsupporter consisting of a belt, the ends of 115 which are folded over and plaited to constitute reinforces, of a plaited reinforce in the rear, which rear reinforce also causes the belt to fit the shape of the body, pendants detachably connected with the reinforced portions 12o of the belt, and a removable substitute section, the belt and section provided with means whereby to adjust the size of the belt.
