DRINKING-GLASS HOLDER.
, ECIFICATION forming part 0f Letters Patent No. 674,787, dated May 21, 1901.
Application filed November 6, 1900. Serial No. 35,611. (No model.)
To MN, wiz/171?J 'at iii/(ty concern:
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH METZ, a citizen-of the United States, and a resident of Atlantic City, in the county of Atlantic and Slate of New Jersey, haveinvented a new and Improved Drinking-Glass Holder, of which the following` is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a device for holdro ing drinking-glasses and forming a handle therefor, which device may be readily applied to or removed from the glass at will, one holder being useful in connection with many glasses.
This specification is the specic description of one form of theinvention, while the claims are definitions of the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification,
zo in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure lis a perspective View of the invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a plan View of a modification.
The holder comprises two annular springstraps to embrace the glass and hold it. These straps are shown in Figs. l and 2 as made up of arc-shaped wires or rods a, the ends of which are joined to retractile spiral springs 3o l), completing theannular form of the straps. As shown in Fig. the wires are replaced by thin strips a of metal. In fact, material of any sort or form maybe used to compose the straps, provided the straps are given a spring character, so that they will firmly embrace and hold the glass. The two straps are joined at one side by a rod or other connection c and at the opposite side by a plate or the like d, to which latter a handle e is attached.
In using the device it is slipped over the 4o glass, and then it serves to hold the glass firmly, permitting the glass to be lifted and used in various manners through the medium of the handle e. The handle is adapted especially for thin glasses, such as are cinployed in saloons for serving beer, wine, dsc.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A drinking-glass holder, coinprisingtwo 5o straps adapted removably to embrace theglass each strap comprisinga retractilc spring for the purpose specified, a handle extending between and connected with the straps, and a connection extending between the straps at a point opposite the handle.
2. A drinking-glass holder, comprising two annular straps said straps being each coinposed of a wire or rod, and a retractile spring, joined to and connecting the ends of the rod, 6o a plate extending between the straps, a handle attached to the plate, and a rod extend ed between the straps at a point opposite the plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed my naine to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RUDOLPH METZ.
