IMPROVED FOLDING TABLE.

TO ALL PERSONS TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME:
Be it known that I, JULIA P.BROWN, of Boston, in the count-y of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Tables; and do hereby declare the same to he fully described in the following specification, and represented the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a front elevation.
Figure 2, an under side view, and
Figure 3, an end elevation of a table provided with my invention.
The top or board A of the said table is supported by four legs BB C C. The legs BB are connected together by two parallel bars E E, and are arranged between the other legs C C, and connected to them by joint-pins, a, going through the legs C Cv and fastened in the legs B B. Each leg O is connected at its upper end with the board or top A by a hinge, b. To the under side of the top A are fixed two metallic shoes F .F for reception of the upper ends of the legs B B, they, when within the shoes, abutting against the middle portions of the shoes. The inner leg of each shoe is cam-shaped, as shown at c, (see Figures 4 and 5,) one of which is an under side and the other a side view of the shoe. A hole, d, is made through the cam-shaped side, the said hole being to receive the hook of a spring-catch, e, which is screwed to the inner side of theleg, and so arranged that when the legs are in the act of entering` the shoes, the cams by their action against the catches shall spring them toward the legs until the hooks of the-cams may come even with the holesrd d. The catches then being relieved will enter the said holes and hold the legs in connection with the shoes.'4 This construction of the table enables thelegs to be folded together and against the shoes or table top, in manner as shown in Figure '6. Whenthe legs B B are within the shoes F F they can be disconnected therefrom by simply unlatching the catches e e from the shoes. The act of forcing the legs BB into the shoes causes the spring-catches, by means of the cams e c, to engage with the shoes and connect them to the table top.
I do not claim a table made with folding legs applied to its top; what I claim as my invention, is-
The combination and arrangement of the cammed shoes and the spring-catches, the table top and the two sets of legs, arranged and applied together and to the table top, substantially as specified, such shoes being made with holes or recesses in their sides to receive the hooks of the catches, as set forth.
