MILK-CAN CLOSURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 672,791, dated. April 23, 1901.
Application filed January 26, 1901. Serial No. 44;,827. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EZEKIEL MILLS, J r., of the city of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Milk-Can Closures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in milk-can closures, and particularly that type of closure in which a flanged plug is screwed into the can-top; and the said invention consists in means whereby the said flanged plug may be turned to close and unclose the can, as will hereinafter fully appear.
In the further description of the said invention which follows reference is made to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section of the upper end of a milk-can embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. Fig. 3 is apartly-sectional side view of a key whereby the flanged closing-plug is turned. Fig. 4 is an under side view of Fig. 3. Referring now to the drawings, 1 is the upper end of an ordinary milk-can, and 2 the can-top, which is secured in any suitable manner to the upper end of the can proper.
4 is a threaded flanged plug screwed into the top 2, as shown in Fig. 1.
Centrally of the plug 4 is a cylindrical recess 5, and 6 is a small hole extending downwardly from the bottom of the said recess and situated near to its edge or circumferonce.
The key (shown in Figs..3 and 4) consists of a shank 7, having a suitable cross-handle 9 at its upper end and a cylindrical enlargement 10 at its lower end which fits the recess 5 in the threaded and flanged plug 4. The said enlargement is provided with a pin 11, of, say, steel, which is screwed into it from the lower side or face, and this pin fits closely the hole 6 and serves as means to communicate rotary movement of the key to the plug in closing and unclosing the can.
I claim as my inventi0n--- In a milk-can closure, an exteriorly-threaded screw-plug, having a central cylindrical recess therein, and a hole in the bottom of the said recess situated near to its circumference, whereby it is adapted to receive a turningkey which fits the said cylindrical recess and is provided with a pin which enters the said hole leading therefrom, substantially as specified.
EZEKIEL MILLS, JR.
