Be it known that l, ELIZABETH ANN `GREG- ORY, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Craig, in the county of Holt and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Buggy-Seat, of which the .following is a speciication.

This invention relates to auxiliary seats for bnggies and other vehicles; and the object of 1o the same is to provide simple and effective means of the character set forth adapted to be either hidden or concealed when not in use or when desired withdrawn and set up in operative position and capableof vertical i adjustment and also disposition in front of or over the vehicle-seat to place the user in the most convenient position relatively to the remaining occupants l of the main seat, the improved attachment being used Without mazo terially varying the structure of the vehicleseat proper.

The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more full hereinafter described and z 5 claimed. l

.In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of an ordinary vehicle-seat and a portion of a vehicle-body and showing the improved auxiliary seat applied thereto. Fig. 5o 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through the vehicle-seat and the auxiliary seat. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, showing the auxiliary seat detached and the supplemental bottom for the vehicle-seat elevated. Fig. 4C is a detail perspective view of an improved form of seat-post forming part of the improvement. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective View of the supporting member for the said post.

The numeral l designates a buggy or other vehicle seat of any ordinary form and of a dimension sufficient for the comfortable occupancy of two persons. This seat has the usual bottom 2 with a central opening 3, which is closed by a removable cover fi. To the rear portion of the` bottom 2 and located on the upper side of the latter a strip 5 is secured, 5o and' to the front edge of the said strip the rear edge of a supplemental bottom 6 is connected by suitable hinges 7. The front central portion of the supplemental bottom 6 has the horizontal member 8 of an anglesupport 9 iirmly secured thereto, the front 55 depending vertical member 10 of the said support being located in advance of the front upper central portion of the box of the vehicle-seat 1 and provided with an upperhangerstud 11,'with a projection l2 and a lower slot 6o 13, having an outstanding guard 14 extending transversely of the lower end portion of the said vertical member. The horizontal member 8 of the support is embedded in the supplemental bottom, so as to provide a Hush surface against which to place the cushion and avoid Wear and tear on the latter.

The seat-post comprises a flat metallic bar 15, having a series of vertically-alined keyhole-slots 16 therein and the upper end formed 7o with angularly-divergent horizontal rests 17 for attachment to different under portions of a seat 18 in order to produce a stronger attachment. The bar 15 extends upward to the under part of the seat in eccentric relation to the latter, so that a greater portion of the said seat is projected beyond one side of the said bar and to provide means for disposing the seat 18 over the supplemental bottom. The bar l5 is slidably fitted in the slot 13 of the 8o vertical member of the support, and one of the keyholeslots 16 is caused to engage the projection 12 and the hanger-stud 11, carrying the same. When the post and support are in the relation just set forth, the bar 15 85 is braced against the vertical member of said support and prevented from having lateral movement, and, moreover, the projection 12 of the hanger-stud 11 obstructs any tendency of the bar 15 to jump oi the said hanger-stud, 9o particularly when the weight of a person is on the seat 18.

At any time desired the seat may be detached and afterward attached, and when not in use the seat 18 and its post may be stored 95 in the box of the vehicle-seat 1, the said box being readily accessible at all times, as there is nothing to interfere with or prevent raising the supplemental bottom, as shown by Fig. 3. The auxiliary-seat attachment is vertically adjustable to suit different persons or to accommodate not only adults of varying IOO heights, but also children, and three persons can thus be comfortably disposed on a single vehicle-seat Without discommodin g or crowding any one of the same. Furthermore, it Will be observed that the ordinary structure of the vehicle-seat is not in the least mutilated or changed to adapt it for the application of the improved device, and it is proposed to manufacture and sell the attachment independently of the vehicle-seats proper. When the attachment is in disuse and the post and seat 18 stored, there are no unsightly partsl exposed to View, and to completely hide the entire attachment the depending vertical member of the angle-support Will be arranged in rear of the seat-apron, which is obvious and Will be readily understood.

Though .the preferred form of the device has been illustrated and descriptively disclosed, it is also obviously apparent that changes in the form, size, proportions, and minor details may be resorted to Without departing from the principle of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is- 1. The combination with an ordinary vehicle-seat, of a supplemental bottom hinged at its rear edge portion thereto, a support fastened exclusively to the front edge portion of the said bottom, and an auxiliary seat having a post adjustably, removably and reversibly held by the said support, the seat being a greater distance beyond one side of the post than the other side whereby the said seat may be projected in advance of or over the vehicle-seat.

2. The 'combination with an ordinary vehicle-seat, of a supplemental bottom hinged thereto, a support having a projection, and a seat-post with a seat tixed to its upper portion, the said post having means to adjustably and removably engage the said projection, and the support and seat-post and seat carried exclusively by the said bottom.

3. The combination with an ordinary ve.- hicle-seat, of an angle-support fixed thereover, and `comprising a depending member provided with a lower slot and an upper hanger-stud, and an auxiliary-seat attachment having a bar with a series of keyholeslots therein lo removably and adjustably engage the said hanger-stud and also with upper divergent rests on Which a seat is secured.
