Description

Pate'rilte Apr. 2, |90I.' P. LEHMANN. Pnonu'crmn oF -AuroMAT|c sns LIGHTiNG PILuLES.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL LEHMANN, OF CHARLOTTENBURG, GERMANY.
PRODUCTION OF AUTOMATIC GAS-LIGHTING PILULES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 670,933, dated April 2, 1901.
Application filed August 2'7, 1900. b'erial No. 28.248. LND model-l To tI/Z whom, t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, PAUL LEHMANN, a subject of the Kingof Prussia, German Emperor, residing at Charlottenburg, in the Kingdom of Prussia and Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Production of Automatic Gas-Lighting Pilules, (for which I have applied for a patent in Germany, dated May 28, 1900,) of Wh ich the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to improvements in the production of automatic gaslighting pilules attached to platinum Wires; and the object of my improvements is to so secure the pilules to the Wires as to facilitate the communication of the heat of the former to the Wires, effect an economy of time and labor in attaching the pilules, and prevent the pilules from becoming loose when in use.
In practicing my invention I employ a plate or board, of hard rubber or other suitable material, with a smooth upper surface and having a number of depressions situated in a straight line. These depressions are of the same size as the pilules to be made and are connected to each other by a groove passing diametrically through the same.
In the accompanying drawings a plate provided with two rows of depressions is illustrated.
Figure 1 is a plan; Fig. 2, an end View, while Fig. 3 is a section on the line a: of Fig. l.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
a is the plate, which is provided with the depressions b, channels c, diametrically cutting said depressions, and pins d at the ends.
I miX the ignitng mass with Water or other suitable liquid, so as to form a stiff pulp, and after stretching a platinum wire in the grooves c of such a plate by securing the ends thereof to the pins d I press the pulp into the depressions and around the wire passing through the same With a spatula. The depressions l) thus serve the purpose of molds. I thenallow the igniting mass in the depressions to dry, whereupon the pilules will be found to be securely lixed to the wires. By using several such plates a a number of pilules may by fixed to Wires in this manner in a short time. Such igniting-pilules communicate the heat developed under the action of the gas instantaneously to their supporting-Wires and render the same incandescent without requiring any additional treatment of any kind.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent of the United States, is-
l. In awpparatus for making gas-lighting pilules, the combination of a plate having depressions to give shape to the pilule, and means for Stringing a platinum wire across the depressions and holding the same in position while the mass forming the pilules is pressed into the molds.
2. An apparatus for producing automatic gas-lighting pilules consisting of a plate a having depressions Z9, grooves c passing diametrically through said depressions, and pins cl, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
PAUL LEHMANN.
