Description

UN TED STATES PATENT orrron.
ALFRED ADAMs, an, DIE-PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
FLExIBLE-LEATHER-IBOARD COMPOSITION.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ALFRED ADAMS, Jr., acitizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvama, have invented new and useful Improvements in Flexible- Leather-Board Composition, of which the vfollowing is a specification.
' My invention relates to a new and useful composition of matter for "producing flexible leather board to be used in the manufacture of shoes, mats, chair bottoms, upholstery and similar articles.
With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and specifically designated by the claims In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe the composition in detail.
In carrying out my invention I mix together hide and leather clippings of ap-' proximately ninety pounds, to which is added approximately ten pounds of cotton,
f preferably in the raw state, to provide thenecessary fiber, and to these is added any suitable and well known binder, such as a mixture'madeof glycerin, and rubber glue, the whole mass being colored to the desired shade-by adding thereto a suitable coloringpigment. These ingredients after being I mixed together are beaten, 'shredded'and stirred to produce a homogeneousmassof A liquid, thin enough to flow readi1y, aj sufii- Specification of Letters Patent. cient amount of the binderbeing added to accomplish this result. This liquid mass is.
then poured into molds of the desired shape and subjected to hydraulic or other high pressure, afterwhich it is gradually dried by aslow heat to produce the flexible leather board.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details and combinations'as herein described, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, is- 1. The herein described composition of matter for producing a flexible leather board consisting of a mixture of hide and leather clippings, ninety pounds, cotton ten pounds and a liquid binder.
2. The herein described composition of matter for'- producing a flexible leather board consisting ofa mixture of hideand leather clippings, ninety pounds, cotton ten pounds, and a liquid binder, the entire mixture being shredded, beaten and stirred to produce a homogeneous .mass which is 'molded in shape, subjected to high pressure and slowly dried.
In testimony whereof, I- have hereuntoaflixed'my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
