MAGAZINE CHARGING-CLIP.
$PEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 670,249, dated March 19, 1901. Application filed August 18, 1900. SerinlNo. 27,345. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, GEORGES ROTH and CHARLES KRNKA, subjects of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary,:nd residents of Vienna,-
Austria-Hungary,have invented certain new and usefulImprovemeu ts in Magazine Chargin g-Clips, of which the following is a f u1l,clear,
and exact description.
The present invention relates to chargingclipsfor automatic firearms; and its object is to give more hold to the cartridges, while at the same time allowing the easy removal of the top cartridge to bring it into position to befired. v
According to the present invention the .frame or clip does not inclose the rear end of ashereina-fterparticularlysetforth. Horizontally-tn rned in weirdly-extending flanges at the cartridges from falling out of the clip, whilethe top flanges are rendered elastic or yielding by slots or incisions formed in the side walls at a point just below the top cartridge, the said incisions extendinginwardly from the rear edge of the said walls.
In order to render the present specification easily intelligible, reference is bad to the accompanying drawings, in which similar numerals of reference denote similar parts throughout both views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the clip, and Fig. 2 a plan of the same.
The frame or clip consists of the front wall 2, having rearwardly-extending side walls'l l, inclosing the noses of the cartridges. The rear edges-of the side walls 1 1 are provided with longitudinalflanges extending inwardly toward each other, as indicated at 3 3, and
' adapted to engage either the extractor-groove and a short retaining-flange 6 is provided at the top of, the side walls to rest against the top cartridge and retain the same in the clip. In order to render the retaining-flanges 6 6 suliicien'tly yielding to enable the top cartridge to be easily slid out into the firing position', slots or incisions 7 7 are formed in the side walls, extending inwardly from the rear edge and located at a point justabout below the top cartridge. By this arrangement the removal of the top cartridge is facilitated,
without, however, impairing the stability of the whole clip, as will be readily understood. If desired, cartridges may be specially constructed for this clip, and the grooves of such gases maybe formed nearer the nose of the cartridge, so that the frame might be narrower; or the grooves need not extend all around the cartridge-case, butthey might be formed at two opposite sides only.
The clip illustrated is for an automatic pistol in which'the magazineis formed in the butt of the pistol; but the clip need not necessarily beslanting, asillustrated. It could have vertical walls and be out off at right angles at the top and bottom instead of being slanted, aswill be readily understood.
'We claim as our invention- 1. A magazine charging-clip having side walls joined by a front wall inclosing the noses of the cartridges, inwardly turned flanges along the rear edges of the said side walls, inwardly-turned flanges at the bottom edges of the said side walls, retaining-flanges at the top of the same and means for rendering thesaid t-op retaining-flanges yielding in themanner and for the purpose substantially as described.
2. A magazine charging-clip having side walls retained in position by a front Wall inclosing the noses of the cart ridges, rear flanges to the side walls to engage the cartridges, bottom flanges to the said side walls to hold the cartridges up and top retaining-flanges to the said side walls, slots or incisions extending from the rear edge of the side walls toward the frontwall at a point approximately below the top cartridge in the manner and for the purpose substantially as described.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGES ROTH. OIIA RLES KRNKA.
