IMPROVED CLIP FOR CLOTHES-LINES AND OTHER PURPOSES.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JULIEN S. ROWLEY, of Chateaugay, Franklin county, New York, have invented a new and improved Clip for Clothes-Lines and other purposes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents my improved clothes-line clip-fastening when open.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same when closed.
Figure Sis a modification of the form of the side-piece of the clip.
Figure 4 represents the clip fastened to clothes on a line.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to an improved device for fastening clothes on lines to dry, and other similar purposes, and consists in two pieces of wood pivoted to a handle in such manner that they may be opened or spread apart, in order to be placed on each side of a rope on which clothes or other articles are hung, when, by drawing them together, they will clasp and clamp the clothes upon the line to hold them fast upon it, as hereinafter more particularly described.
A represents a. centre-piece or wedge-shaped handle, made of wood, of any suitable size to serve as a. clothespin or fastening, and B B are long side-clamps, formed alike and riveted to the centre-piece A by the same rivet a, so that they can be swung apart, as shown in iig. 1, and closed, as shown in tig. 2, to lie alongside of the handle A. On the inside of the side-pieces B B, near the outer ends, are madeindentations c c, round or angular, for tting over and`clasping a rope or line, when they are `brought together to hold clothes upon it, as shown in Iig. 4..
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
