Description

@with faire atwt ffirr,
H. H. MASON AND JOSEPH MESSINGER, OF SPRINGFIELD, VERMONT, Leners Puma No. 66,863, dated Juzg 16, 1867.
IMPROVED MOP-HEAD.
To ALL WHoM 1T MAY coNcERN:
De itlknown that we, H. H. `MASOY and JOSEPH MESSINGER, of Springfield, in the county of Windsor, and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mop-Heads; and we do hereby declare that the t'ollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being hadito the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speeication.
This invention rela-tes to a new and useful improvement in that class ot' mop-heads which have their mova- :ble jaws operated by a screw and nut. l v
The invention consists in a novel way of attaching or connecting the ends ofthe wire or rod compos-ing said jaw to the nut, whereby a very cheap and durable connection of said parts is obtained. In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 is a side view of a mop-head provided with our improvement.
Figure 2, a longitudinal section of the same, taken in the line :z: 2:.
Figure', a sectional view of the,v mould inwhich the nut is cast, with the ends of the rod composing the movable jaw in the mould. l
Similar lettersof reference indicate like parts.
` A represents a part of the handle of' a mop-head, B the xed jaw of the mop-head secured on the end of the handle, C the swivel-screw on the handle, D the nut on the screw C, and E the movable jaw composed of ,a wire or rod bent in proper form, and having its ends secured to the nut D. These parts are all old andwell known, and therefore do not require a minut-e or special description. The nut D is cast with two ears or lugs a a, which project from it at opposite points, and the ends of the movable jaw E are inserted in the mould in which the nut D is cast, so that the ears or lugs a a will be east around the ends of the jaw, as will be fully understood hy referring to tig. 3. By this means the movable jaw is firmly connected to the nut,` and by a very simple and inexpensive means.
y Having thus described our invention, we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- .A mop-head, of the kind specified, having the ends ot' the wireor rod, whichconstitute the movable jaw-E, secured to the lugs or ears of the nut D by inserting the ends of said wire on rod in-the mould in which the nut is east, so that the lugs or ears'will be cast around the ends of the wire' o'r rod, substantially as shown and described.
H. H. MASON,
JOSEPH MESSINGER.
