IMPRVBD SPRING FOR BED-BOTTOMS.

TO ALL WHOM ITMAY CONGERN:

Beit known that I, JAMES JOHNSON, of Northampton county, State of North `Carolina, have invented new and useful improvement in Springs for Bedsteads, Mattresses, Sofas, &c., of which the following is a full,. clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which*v v Figure 1 represents a top view of the bed-spring and slats.

Y The following isa description of the invention, viz A circular board or small table, A, with two curved braces B B underneath and crossing each other at right angles, two of the braces B are united atthe top by a straight cross-piece, C, uniting the two ends, and on which the circular top A rests, the whole being fastened near the circumfcrericeof the top on its lower side by screws. In the centre ofthe connection of the two curved braces B a hole is made, through which the suppbrting-rod D, attached to the lower end of the spring E, passes and screws into the centre ofthe straight cross-support C on the bottom of the circular top A. A tube, F, with a circular cap, G, and extension-rim, contains the spiral spring E. In the centre ofthe cap G is a pipe, J, that is a guide and support for the vertical rod D, as it operates bathe spiral spring E, the rod D being attached and It willbe observed that the spring, as above described, is adapted to bedsteads and ys .piing-n'iattressos, sofas, chairs, railroadseats, railroad sleepin -cars','indeed to any scat or bed where a spring is desired, and so strengthcned and Vsupported as to be with dilicultydisarranged or put out of order.

The arrangement and combination of the circular top A, links K, braces B and C, with the vertical rod D, andspringV E, operating in the tube F, as herein described and for the purpose set forth.
