Be it known that I7 O. A. DEAN, of Champaign, in the county of Champaign, and State ofIllinois,V have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stitching-Horse for Saddles; and I do hereby declare that`the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which willenahle those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side view of my improved stitching-horse. This invention relates to an improvement in a. stitching-horse employed by saddlers. and harness-makers, and consists in arranging the clamp so that it muy be adjusted by raising and lowering the jaws to suit the statuire or convenience of the workman, instead of being stationary as ordinarily constructed. *Y By this de vice there is a. great advantage, as one horse in a shop will thus be adapted to the use oflany workman, and may be changed, as desired, to Aaccommodate the work in hand and the comfort of the workman.
The fra-me and clainp B in the general construction are similar to the .stitching-horse in general'use, but instead ofsecuring the lower end of the clamp rigidly to the seat C of the stitching-horse, it is passed through an opening in the sont, on the sides of which'arevfostened the plates a arprojecting downwards below the seat, throughthe lower end `of which platepass the Vpins b, that are keyed vor.securedwith aiscrew-nut. The lower part of the clamp fits snugly between thfe plates a c and rests on the pins l', which pass through holes inthe lower end of the clamp that permit it to be set higher or lower, as desired. The tightening-strap cis looped over the foot-bar d, and has a huckle,e, on the end for lengtheningor shortening` the strap, as may he necessary, when the clamp is raised or lowered. v,
Having thus described my invention, what I` claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The adjustable clamp.B of asaddlers stitching-horse, arranged and operating as and for the purposes herein described. I i v O. A. DEAN.
