SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 666,967, dated January 29, 1901.
Application filed November 20, 1900. Serial No. 87,100. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MICHAEL MARX and ASTERIO GUERRA, citizens of the United States, and residents of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved package-carrier, consisting of a frame which is adapted to support the packages and is mounted Within a wheel revoluble around the frame. Thus as the wheel is guided along the street or over the floor the packages may be readily transported, while the carrier may also be raised off the ground whenever desired and carried in the hand in the usual manner.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of our improved packagecarrier. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3 3, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a side View of a modification; Fig. 5, a vertical section on line 5 5, Fig. 4.; and Fig. 6, a horizontal section on line 6 6, Fig. 4:.
The letter (it represents a frame, which is supported within a wheel I) by means of rollers c. The frame a has a curved outer edge, an open center, and a fiat base a, as shown. The wheel b is provided with an inner rail 1) and an outer rubber tire 5 The rail b is engaged by rollers c, hung in bearings c of frame a. By the construction described the frame a is confined within the wheel I) in such a manner that the wheel is revoluble around the frame.
To the top of the frame a is secured a yoke d, that straddles the wheel b, and to which the handle 61 is attached. The shanks of the yoke are slotted, as at 01 so that they may be adj ustably connected to frame a by the nuts (1 In this way the elevation of the handle may be adjusted and the carrier thus fitted to larger or smaller persons.
The flat base a of the frame a is extended 45 laterally and forms the support for the packages, bundles, boxes, &c., to be transported. One of the boxes A, containing, say, samples of merchandise, is placed upon the base a at each side of the frame and is secured in position by straps 6. Thus both boxes are securely attached to the carrier and may be readily carried about by raising the entire device off the ground. If it is desired to roll the carrier along the street or floor, the device is lowered until the wheel 19 engages the ground and then the carrier is guided by means of the handle along the ground. Thus it will be seen that the goods can be transported in such a manner that the bearer can relieve himself of their weight whenever desired.
In Figs. 4 to 6 a permanent bag or receptacle Bis fitted to the frame a, while the straps eare dispensed with. This bag is provided with the hinged closing-jaws B, having a suitable lock-or catch B The upper portion of the wheel I) is surrounded by a mud-guard f, secured t0 the receptacle B and provided with the handle What we claim is 1. A package-carrier composed of a frame, a wheel revoluble around the same, a handle, and means for sustaining packages upon the frame, substantially as specified.
2. A package-carrier composed of a frame, rollers pivoted thereto, a wheel having an inner rail engaged by said rollers, a handle secured to the frame, and means for sustaining packages upon the frame, substantially as specified.
Signed by us at New York city, New York, this 10th day of November, 1900.
M. MARX. ASTERIO GUERRA.
