TO WI-IOMV IT MAY CONCERN:
y Be it known that' I, GEORGE KNIGHT, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful improvement in Cookingvessels; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, -and exact description thereof,- reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to a. construction. of skillet, pan, kettle,. or other culinary vessel, adapted to conduct oithe vapors and other volatile ellluvia or emanations of cooking, boiling, &p.
Figure 1` is a perspective view of a frying-pan or skillet embodying my invention.
' Figure 2 is an axial section of the same in place on the stove.
A is a lskillet or frying-pan, having on one side of it a descending' duct or ventage, B, leading into the stove fine. The cover C' may be of the common form, or may be provided with a small duet, D, extending from at or near its centre to ltbe ventage B, so as to draw the vapors equally from all sides. The arrangement of'v Vthe fume-duct B on the side most remote from the handle E places said (inet nearest the escape-line inthe position in whichit is customary for cooks to place such pans, namely, with thehandle projecting over the front edge-of` thestovfg and thereby lessensthe danger of a counter-current'of smoke from the tire-chamber up through the said duct, as well as the too great chilling of the front portion of the fire-space. Such position also avoids any preponderating n'eighton either side tending to turn the pan in the hands of the operator. The arrangement of the rim F eccentrically on the under side of the panbottom enables the duct B to'be carried directly or'almost directly downward, and yet to communicate with the flue inside of said rim, soras to afford a direct issue while encroaching very little on the proper area of the pan. The said rim maybe either continuous or in arcs of a circle with spaces between;
-I claim herein as new, 'and of my invention 1. The combination of the eccentric rini F with the vertical or nearly vertical fume-duct B. descending within the said rim, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination oi' the'ducts D and B, with the skillet A and cover C, substantially ai: and for the purposes set forth. `l
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
GEO. H. KNIGHT.
