Be it known that I, CHARLES W. BREWSTER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of El Monte, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Violin-Supports; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom panying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Fig. 4 is a central vertical section of the same in engagement with said button. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the bearing B.

The object of the invention is to provide means for supporting and holding a violin in position while playing in such a manner as to relieve the violinist from the necessity of holding his head down in cramped position.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of devices, as hereinafter set forth.

In the accompanying drawings the letter A designatesa neckband or necktie or a portion of the neck of a vest or other garment whose position upon the wearer is similar to that. of the neckband. This part of the tieband or garment is provided with a bearing B, which extends laterally on the left side of the neck or clavicular portion of the chest in front and is curved to conform to the person. It is made of covered wire or other material having some flexibility and yet sufficiently rigid to support and hold the violin when connected thereto. When a necktie is used, the left side of the neckband is stiffened by means of the wire bearing-piece B, which is secured therein. For convenience the bearing-piece may consist of the double-branched curved Wire pin having its branches cl parallel and having ends 6, which can be bent reversely after insertion to secure the bear ing in place. Being covered in by the cloth of the band, it does not show.

The hook attachment F is designed to be connected to the grooved button 9 on the end of the violin. In this manner the violin is readily supported and held in proper position without bending the neck to rest the chin thereon, and while the attachment is secure it is sufficiently yielding and admits of sufficient adjustment and motion to allow the violinist all the freedom desired in playing.

The invention is designed to afiord much relief to a violinist, enabling him to hold his head erect, and thus not only relieving him of a cramped and painful position, but also enabling him to have the free use of his head and neck with reference to reading his notes and observing other matter often of importance to him in effecting a successful performance.

Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. The combination with a violin, of a detachable hook attachment for the end button thereof, said attachment having a forked frame adapted to embrace said button, and a wedge-key for securing said frame in place upon said button, together with a detachable stiffener for a necktie or the like of the musician, said stiffener consisting of an open loop having pointed ends, which are of flexible metal and adapted to bend backwardly to secure the stifiener from displacement, substantially as specified.
