To enable those skilled in the art to make and use 'our improved ribbon map, We will proceed to describe its construction and operation. y I
The` drawings represent a perspective view of one of the maps and` its enclosing case.
The case A is not altogether unlike the case used on an ordinary measuring-tape line, except that it is somewhat longer. It may be constructed of wood, gutta percha, metal, or any other suitable material. It is simply two disk-like ends, a a, connected together by a cylindrical shell, a', the latter piece having a slot in one side, through which the map passes. The map B may be of a river, railroad, or any other line of travel that it may be desirable to illustrate. It may be printed or painted upon cloth or paper, and the distances between important points may be marked by marginal figures of reference. A piece, b, of the same material as the case A should be fastened to the outer end of the ribbon, so as to keep it stretched to its maximum width, and also to prevent its being' drawn into the case. The inner end of the ribbon is to be fastened to a reel or shaft running through the centre ofthe case A, (but not shown.) The crank C at the end of the case A is used to wind up the map.' 4
Having described our invention, what we claim, is
The map B, arranged with its end strip b, in combination with the reel and its crank C and the casing A, i
