A spool is journalled within the top portion of the body member and fixed at the lower end thereof in the rotatable base. An elongated strip of photos is wound about the spool. The free end of the strip extends thru a vertical slot laterally disposed in the body wall and terminates with the free end thereof fastened to an elongated arcuate strap member normally held exteriorly against the body portion wall. an arcuate member or handle. The sphere may be colored and lined as a basketball, baseball or other sphere employed in a sport, and the photo strip carries pictures of team members as a souvenir. The strip is retracted by manual rotation of the base.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a vertical cross-sectional view of the souvenir assembly embodying the invention.
FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a horizontal central cross-sectional view of the device.
FIG. 4 is a perspective of the device.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION As shown in FIG. 1, the device has a spherical body 11 engaged with a rotatable base 12 which latter has a circular upstanding portion 13 journalled in the central bottom aperture at 14 of the body portion 11.
The upstanding portion 13 has a central vertical square bore at 15 in which is fixed the lower end 16 of the spool 17 which carries the wound strip of photos The upper end 20 of the spool 17 is journaled in the top central circular element 21 within the body portion 11.
Manual rotation of the base portion 12 will easily retract the photo strip 18 for safe keeping within the device.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:-
1. A souvenir photo strip housing including a body portion, the exterior surface thereof contoured and colored in the manner of a spherical sports ball, a spool disposed vertically therein, a photo strip is normally wound on said spool, a rotatable flat-bottomed base disposed exteriorly of the bottom of said body portion of the sports ball, said body portion having a central aperture in the bottom end thereof, an upstanding portion centrally disposed on the rotatable flat-bottomed base freely rotatable within said central aperture and engaging said spool so as to provide a winding element for said photo strip, a shoulder on said upstanding portion spaced from the bottom thereof to maintain the body portion spaced from the base, a square vertical bore within the top of said upstanding portion, a square peg depending from the spool secured within said square bore spaced flanges on the spool to facilitate winding of the photo strip thereon, a vertically pro ecting round peg integral with the top of the spool, a short downward cylindrical projection vertically disposed within the top of the body portion journaling said round peg, said body portion having a vertical slot permitting withdrawal of the strip of pictures for viewing the same, and a handle member attached to the free end of the photo strip comprised of two parts as a unitary structure, one is the handle proper as an elongated arcuate strap adapted to lodge against the spherical body portion when the photo strip is rolled up on the spool and and a plate secured at right angles thereto having a split innermost edge to receive and fix the free end of the photo strip for withdrawing the same.
