WILLIAM W. BEACH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.'
Leners Patent No. 66,448, dated Juzg 9, 18er.
IMPROVED INKSTAND AND MUCILAGB-HOLDER COMBINED.
@its rlgemle mmh it in tlgeseiettrt atent zml making met uf the sume.
To ALL WHoM IT MAY coNcERN:
Be it known that I, Dr. WILLIAM W. BEACH, of the city and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new and improved Inkstand and Mucilage-Holder Combined; and I do hereby declare the' following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the said invention, reference' being had to the annexed drawing, making 'part of this specificati-nn, wherein I have represented a vertical section of said inkstand and mucilage-holder combined. A
Ink and mucilage are required very generally by accountants, merchants, and others, and heretofore the mucilageholder has been entirely separate from the inkstand. By combining the two no more space is required on the desk that is usually occupied by the vessels separately, and the base of the inkstand can be broad and rm, and the mucilagereceptacle within or connected with said inkstand is always in a convenient position for use. The brush in my mucilage-receptacle onlyis immersed, and is in a position to be easily grasped and used.
In the drawing I have shown an`inkstand composed of the saucer a, ink-vessel b, cup e, on the side, and displacer d, to cansethe link to rise in the cup as said displacer is forced down, but this inkstand may be of any desired size orcharacter to which the mucilage-reccptacle can 4be applied with facility. I make the displacer d hollow, and form a screw upon its outside, so that it can be screwed up or down through the cap e, according to theheight of ink or quantity in the fountain. The cap e and vessel b may be made together. This hollow displacer I make use of for receiving the mucilage-brush and fountain, the same forming a cup. fis the muclage-fountain, shown as inverted into the cup d, and provided 4with a brush, g, at the mouth or neck, with a. hole through the brush to allow the mucilage to pass to the brush as required. When inverted into the cup d, the brushg is immersed in the mucilage in said cup, and is kept moist and in condition for use, and the mucilage cannot run out of'the fountainf, because its mouth is immersed. The brushes can be screwed into the neck of the fountain, so as to beremovable to introduce a brush of a dierentsize o1' shape, or to supply a new one when required. The character of inkstand may be varied as required, so long as provision is made in the same for the mucilage. l
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A-mucilage-receptacle and inkstand combined, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
I also claim the displacer d, formed with a screw on the outside for adjusting said displacer in the ink, and a. cup on its inside for the reception of mucilage, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my signature this eleventh day of May, A. D. 1867.
WM. W." BEACH.
