Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,923, dated April 13, 15 75; applicatior. filed March 9, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORG BAADER, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain- Pens; and do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a side view of the plunger and valve. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the plunger and valve devices.
My invention relates to a fountain-pen having a conductor and ink-chamber in the penholder, and a plunger provided with a venthole, and an elastic valve operated by a screw, as hereinafter described.
A represents the lower part of the holder, provided with a conductor, b, extending from the ink-chamber to the pen, and provided with a spoon, I), to hold the ink in the pen. The
upper end of the lower part of the holder is provided with a screw to fit a female screw on the lower end of the upper part of the holder, forming the ink-chamber B. O is the plunger, having a venthole, f, extending longitudinally through it. o is a cap attached to the top of the plunger, and provided with a screw to receive the screw-bolt d, the lower end of which is provided with a valve, h, of rubber or other suitable material. D is a rod, provided with a hook on the lower end, to enter the hole in the end of the bolt (1, for operating the plunger.
When the chamber is to be filled, the valve his screwed down on the top of the hole f, thoroughly closing it, and the phmgeris moved by the rod D to the bottom of the chamber, and the pen and lower end of the conductor being inserted in the ink, the plunger is drawn up, filling the chamber with ink. The valve is opened while writing with the pen, and closed when the pen is not in use.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with a fountain-pen plunger, 0, having a venthole, f, the valve h, adjusted on a screw-bolt, (1, arranged in cap a, substan tially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention, 1 have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORG BAADER.
