IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 6,611, dalted July 31, 1849.

Be it known that I, JOHN RICH, of Troy, in

the county oflensselaerand State of N ew York,

have invented a. new und Improved Mode of Constructing P lows; and l do hereby declare that the following is e full and exact description of the same, reference beingr had to the accompanying drawings Figure l being a, perspective view, Fig. 2 n. bottom' View, and Fig.3 a back end View, ofthe same.

My improvement consists in the mode ofcon structing the bed (or nose-piece) of u plow for the securing of the mold-board thereto, and ot' the manner of securing,r the handles, thereby rendering' it simple and cheap of construction, the whole being made of castor wrought iron, with the except-ion of the handles. i Ais the bed of theplow, (represented in Fig.2, and ina. detached view at Fig. 4,) which has n, slot, a, and/admits of e projecting knob, b, on the mold-board B. vThis projection is in the shape of u dovetail, (or double hook,) and slips in the slot a, therebylrmly securing the moldboard to the bed by means ofthe wedge d, scid wedge answering the double purpose of'ulso securing the lower ends of the' handles in n. socket of the bed, as represented.

I will now proceed to describe the manner ofV securing the handles.

C is a. brace which secures thelmold-board to the lundside, this being furnished with a hook,

e, forming, in a manner, n mortise for the reception ot' one of the handles, while the other is secured by means of a projection on the beam, as utf, Fig..l, the handles being made fast by means of a wedge-piece, g, which is held in place by pins, there heilig pins driven in the handles directly in front of the bruce C, to prevert the'ha-ndles from drawing out, as shown at The movable part of' the lendside is secured by means well known, and therefore need not be described.

Having thus described and represented my construction of plow, what I claim es new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-.

l. The manner of forming the bed of u plow with a socket for thedmission ot' the handles, and securing the mold-board tothe bed A by means of the knobs b, the one wedge d serving,` the double purpose of retainin g the mold-board and lower ends of the handles in place, in the manner described and represented.

2.\So constructing' the brace O as to ineke u rm rest and fasteningfor the handles, thereby rendering un effectual and simple fastening' for the handles ofaJ plow, the whole being arranged substantially as set forth. I
