IMPROVED WINDOW-SGREEN.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN;

Be itknown that we, ROSCOE G. BENNETT, of Saco, in the county of York, and State of Maine, and LIBERTY B. DEXNETT, of Portland, county of Cumberland, in said State of Maine, have invented a. new and improved Window-Screen fixture for the purpose of excluding flies and mosquitoes when the window is open and we do hereby declare that the following is a full 'und exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which---- Figure l is a, perspective view, and

a, fig. 1, represents the window-frame; b'the sash; c the appliance by which the screen is fastened to the Bush by mezins of the Buttons 2 z z; nnd d the covering to the roller upon which the screen is wound in shutting thewindow, and from which it is unwound in opening the window. e, fig. 2, represents the roller, f the metallic spring; g, u. stationary cylinder which is fastened to the window-facing g by means of the small 'pins h h, or

the square tenon 2', which is to be inserted into the facing g to prevent the stationary cylinder 9 from turning. k is another cylinder fastened to the roller e, by the cog m, which is inserted into the groove 7:. u is the pin or axle upon which the cylinder k revolves as the window opens or shuts. The metallic spring fis'coiled around the pin u, bctiveen the cylinders k and g, which keeps the spring always in place. One end of the spring is fastened to the pin u, and the other to the cylinder k by the pin 10. The spring is wound up, and the cylinders k and g inserted into the cavity 0 in the cnd of the roller e', and is attached to or withdrawn from the facings q 1 through the mortiscs y in the roller. V

The construction of the spring and accompanying cylinders, pin, cog, groove, &.c., to be used in the opposite end of the roller, is precisely the same as the one described above, excepting only that the cylinder 2' has a, square head, deemed necessary to obtain greater strength of attachment to the facing q; When the roller has been attached either at thcibottom or top of the window the spring is wound up by turning the roller, and the screen is attached to the roller and snsh and is ready for operation. In opening the window the screen follows,

and'in shutting it is wound up by the spring.

The advantages of the fixture are that the spring, and operating parts connected therewith, being inserted entirely within the roller so that the screen may come in contact with thc Wiudow-facing, thus entirely excluding flies and mosquitoes, it is self-adjusting, that the window may be opened more or less at. pleasure, that it may be put on or taken of? without difficulty, and can be manufactured at a very trifling'cxpensc.

Claim.
