Description
`To all whom it rrmi/y concern Be it known that I, WInnmM J. DECKER, of Nyack,
tant
@anni ff'ite.
WILLIAM J. DECKER-, OF NYACK, NEW YORK. Lezers Para: No. 87,647, ma 1am/wh' '9, 1869.
The Schedule rean-ed to in these Letters Patent and making part of the sama in the county ofRockland, and State of New York, have invented a new andimproved Blind-Fastening; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of my improved blind-fastening.
Figure 2 is a face view of the same.

This invention relates to a new combined apparatus for holding blinds and shutters closed, open or partly open, for locking them safely to the window-frame and sash, and for setting the slats.
The apparatus is of very simple construction, readily applied to old and new blinds, and not liable to get` ont oi' order. V
rIlhe invention consists in the generalfcombination of parts, which are an ordinary catch, an additional fasteningdever', for locking the blind, andfor. holding it partly open, and a lever` and rod, for adjusting the slats, all arranged ou one small metal frame, which is fastened tothe inner side of the blind.
The invention also consists in the arrangement of a spring, by which both the ordinary catch and the additional lever-catch are held il; the desired positions, either open or closed.
`The invention also consists in the .aforesaid levercatch being so arranged that it can lock the blind to a pin, which is covered b y the lower sash. The shutter can, consequently, not -beopened without rst raising the lower sash, which may also be-locked.
, A, in the drawing, represents a window-frame.
d3 is the lower sash, and rO, the blind or shutter. To the inner side of the blind is secured, bymeans of screws, a, or otherwise, a cast, or other metal plate or frame, D, to which the catches and other devices, that constitute my invention, are secured.
E is ia double hook-catch, of ordinary or suitable form, p'ivoted, by a pin, b, to lugs c, .projecting from the plate D, said catch projecting from -both sides of the blind as usual, and having a' hookat each end, as
v shown.
Its inner hook, d, allows the blind to be fastened to' asta-ple or pin, e, that projects from the frame A.
F is a spring, fastened to the plate or frame D, and acting against a shoulder, o, of the catch E, so as to throw the inner end of thesame down.
To a pin,'j, which projects :from the' catch E, is pivoted alever, G, which, with its outer end, reaches the spring F, while its inner end has an eye, by means of which it can be fastened t0-one of two pins, g h, projecting from the sill of the window-frame.
lhe outer end of the lever G is flattened, so thatv the spring F will hold it down, as in-ig; l, while the spring will also serve to hold it up, as indicated by red lines in iig. 3.-
When the blind is to be locked, the lever G is fitted upon the pin y, and the same is then covered by the sliding sash B, or by a folding window, as the case may be; The lever Gis thenl locked securely, and cannot be swung up to open the blind, unlessV the sash is first raised, or the window opened. As long as the lever is thus locked, the catch 'E cannot beopened, as itspin, f, is held down by the lever. A The-lever G may also'be used to hold the blind partly open, as in g. 4, when it is fitted uponl the pin h,
H is a spring-lever, pivoted by a pin, i., to the plate D, and tted under or through a rack-bar or arm, j, of the said plate D, v
By means of a r'od, 7c, the lever H is connected with the. Slat-bar I, as in fig. 2. A knobor handle, l, is arranged on the spring-lcv er, H. Bythis means, the Slat-bar can be moved up or down, more or less, as may be desired, to hold the slatsmore or less closed or open.
Notches are arranged on the arm` j, to lock the lever H in any desired position.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patenty 1. The lever G, when connected with a blind-fastener, E, substantially` as described.
2. The spring F,`when arranged as described, to hold at once'the spring-catch E and the leverG, in the requisite positions, as specified.
3. The combination, withl each other, of the plate D, catch E, lever G, spring F, lever H, and 4rod k, all
arranged, combined, and-operating substantially.
